I hadn't heard anything about this until today, just thought I'd share:

Although, I'm not really excited about Michael Bay directing...could be cool though.

I've been keeping up on it for awhile now.....unfortunately it seems they are going to center the story around the humans. If they would make something like the animated movie (which ROCKS!) then I might be more enthused.
-
Oh lord. Any live action treatment of the Transformers probably has about a 90% chance of being awful. Adding Michael Bay to the mix pretty much just shores up that final 10%.
-
Well, I have followed the rise and fall of teh Transformers movie for about a year now, and they honestly havent even penned a solid script yet. Although it sounds like a rough one is due next week.

IGN has several decent articles about the film.
"In terms of Transformers, it's the same approach [as The Island]. How do you do giant robots and care? We used to joke that we were calling it Campbell's Soup: The Movie because it was the ultimate product placement. You know, just put the toy up there and what are you gonna do? So we've been very diligent to find what the character story is. How they relate to the story, how they relate to the humans, so it's not just a toy commercial. So I think it's going well."
-
It's sad. It will end up an overmarketed, poorly done piece of crap made specifically to sell toys. It could end up worse than the third Batman movie was.

I really liked the animated 80's movie. I hope they do it justice. I do wonder if they will stay with the classic guys or are they going to put all the new ones in. I am behind in the generations of transformers. It's been awhile.
-
The original was pretty good, not an awesome movie but good and true to the spirit rather than the marketing.
That sort of moviemaking has gone the way of the dodo.
-
I'd watch it to see a like-action transform. That's about it, though. I seriously don't see this one being done well.
-
That's the main problem. I don't want to see a live action transform. I saw it in that car commercial, it was overkill. Who really wants to see Keanu Reeves try to act with animated figures? You know they'll stick some cold yet scifi known actors in there that suck.
Make it a fully animated, 2d movie like the first one and it will be excellent. Of course, they would never do that.
-
Saw it in a car commercial? Do you have a link? I'd like to see that.
-
Don't remember what it was, bet Google could find it. It may have even been mentioned here, if you search this forum.

I dunno. I thought it was pretty cool.
-
Yeah, for 20 seconds. Now watch it for 90 minutes straight.
-
I like the idea of a live action movie.
Maybe they'll have realistic toys, instead of the ones that look to much like a robot when it's a car, or to much like a car when it's a robot.
-
Yeah, for 20 seconds. Now watch it for 90 minutes straight.
If it's done right though, it could be really awesome. It wears off in the commercial because they use the CGI robot as a novelty act. If someone with some real story-telling skills pens the script, and Bay really concentrates on framing a nice shot, and doesn't relying solely on CGI characters...it could turn out ok.
This is all so much conjecture though. Most likely, it'll suck.

We'll be out of Iraq with bouquets of thanks before that happens.

Not possible.

Waitwaitwait!
They're calling the TRANSFORMERS the characters instead of the squishies?
Improvement over my expectations(which involved a lot of small pink things angsting while giant robots kicked ass in the background) already.

Dude, here's a sneak peek at the poster:

Here's the stunt double shooting an early scene:

Maybe this movie *will* suck! ;)

That sounds completely faithful to the cartoon! ;D

True. I made the mistake of rewatching some of those after I grew up a bit. They're just horrible.

That's hilarious. What a good movie.
I also found the quote from Mr. C hilarious about the, "and if Bay..."
The fact that it is Bay tells us everything we need to know about it. There's no "if Bay..." We know exactly what Bay will do because he does it every time. And it always sucks.
