I now have in my posession the rare JUNO FIRST (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=8261) (gutted cabinet).
Side art is nice, but has scuffs of course. One side is showing humidity damage, but the other side is nice n smooth.
I have already won a very nice marquee off Ebay, and have ordered a complete original control panel. Next things I need (help me out guys if you find any of this stuff):
- Gottlieb logo coin door - Thanks to Deefish ! 02/22/06
- Bezel artwork Got it - 02/08/06
- Front artwork (just below the control panel on the front--mine is black) Got it - 02/08/06
- PCB (though I am debating just using MAME...) Got it - 02/12/05
Stuff it needs which I can easily order:
- New black leather texture t-molding
- Maybe some partsexpress black laminate on the front (though i could use paint)
- glass Got the original with art and smoked plexi - 02/08/06
- vertical mount monitor Got one - 09/18/05

This is a great game. I heard of it, but I never saw an original even though I spent a lot of time in arcades in the 80's. Gets me all spazzed out, kind of like Robotron used to before I played it 10,000 times. ;D

I never played it at the arcade, but I played it on the test rig for my MAME cocktail I'm building. It's actually a pretty fun game, and the bass is incredible. It really hits the lows.
I know it's not factory original, but you might want to consider dropping a cheap amplified bass tube in the bottom of that thing to pick up the lows. I've seen them at Circuit City for $40 or $50 including built-in amp. 8)

Have now acquired a vertical shelf-mount monitor. I also have my eye on a PCB on Ebay...

Patience has rewarded me. Won a tested working PCB off Ebay for a great price. Looks like this machine won't be running a PC under the hood after all.

Very nice cab there! The artwork above the monitor inside the cabinet is cool, bet it'll look good when the monitor lights it up.
Always nice to see original cabinets getting restored and PCB's fitted.

Got a PCB, from the UK. Got gouged on shipping. I really didn't expect it to cost so much, seeing how cheap it is when I order stuff from Ultimarc.
My cab's wiring and monitor are not set up. Lucky for me I have a Taito style cocktail that is already wired up for "Konami classics" pinout.
I checked all wiring, to make sure nothing's wrong... plugged the board in, powered up... Nothing. Weird lines on screen, and a repeating "thucking" sound. How disappointing.
I expecting to need to adjust the power, and this is what I did, but at first power seemed to be too high. (+5.64). This worried me that I could have damaged something. But the power knob was all the way down.
After a couple times cleaning/reseating the connector, it occured to me to measure the voltage AT THE BOARD. That's right, I was measuring it right off the power supply before. Well whatta ya know. At the board it was around +4.2 volts. Too low!
I powered down, and adjust the power knob slightly several times. The garbage on screen eventually was slightly different. Finally after about the 5th adjustment of the knob, a high score table!! YES! Board works as advertised by the seller!
Played a couple rounds and promptly decided I need to find the dipswitch settings cuz this thing is on EASY (way too easy!) ;D

Well today was a great day for Juno First. Thanks to another fan of the game, I managed to secure:
- Original glass
- with original bezel art
- and with the original smoked plexiglass
- plus the original monitor shroud
- a coin bucket
- and that's not all folks...
- ... the front artwork
I don't know if the seller wants his name plastered on message boards, so I'll just refer to him as the Barette Baron.

I probably will not. At least not any time soon. If I do, it will be in couple years. I'd actually rather find another cab in better condition. This one is not perfect, but looks good from a few feet away.

I loved playing Juno First, it's a little bit like Defender but up and down the screen rather than left and right.
First time I ever played it was at an arcade called Kaleidescope in Adelaide, South Australia, it was a really hot night and a friend and I played it for about two hours, it is one of those games that's really physical, I can remember I had sweat running down my face and the joystick was hard to grip.
For those that haven't played give it a go.
Anyway RayB, looks like it's going to be a real nice cab.

I have a choice to make with my front artwork... The original art is an overlay, applied to two front wood parts of the cabinet, just below the control panel. I have in my posession the actual pieces of the cabinet with the art on it.
To install it, as I see it I have two choices:
1. Route the art pieces down till its about 1/4" or less thick, then glue to my cabinet.
2. Cut out the whole part and glue in the one with art on it. (con: structural strength will probably be less than it is now, though I could reinforce with L brackets inside).

I think I would go for option 2, if I am reading things correctly, and use some screwed-and-glued backer blocks instead of L-brackets (then you get the extra strength from the additional glued surfaces).

OK, so I go to install the Gottlieb "logo" coin door... The cabinet currently has a Coin Controls over/under. The Gottlieb door is made by Wico, but it's a perfect fit for the CC frame. The only problem is... the Gott door didn't come with a hinge, and the CC door hinge is bonded (welded?) to the CC door.
Any ideas?

Huh? Weird, So the CC has a hinge but its welded to the frame and door? Can you use a cutout disk and cut it away without damaging the hinge? You may want to go with another coin door frame, if you have a spare, and remove that one and put on some other machine. Would a swap like that enable you to install the logo door? Check some of your other machines to see which one would work, I bet you have one you could flip them on.
Sorry RayB for no hinge. Thats the way I got it. :(
Anyone every seen those sold on any parts websites? You would think that they would, since you can bend them fairly easily. I guess most ops would just replace the whole front, frame and all. Somebody on here might have and old beat up coin door that they could salvage the hinge from it.....
I will search the net and check my links to see if one of the many sites I've got parts from might have something.
Oh, that sucks about having to cut the piece off of an old Juno. To bad you cant get the lower Artwork NOS or something.

The coinco doors are "spot"welded to the hinges. You can drill down thru the center of each spot weld and seperate the door from the hinge. Unless you have a welder, it maight be less than fun to put the new door back on there.
With a mig I would just "spot" weld the Gott door back on the hinge. Maybe have a local welder or a friend do it for you?

Welp, first thing I'm doing is lookin for a proper sized hinge, which I may be able to cut to the right length and just screw to the door. The Gottlieb door has screw holes.
As for removing the hinge from the CC door, I'll look into it, but I'm really afraid I'd end up with a mangled crooked hinge.

That Gottlieb logo door is actually part of a Wico coin door. They made an over/under and side by side version. Along with Gottlieb, they also produced Centuri, Taito and Cinematronics logo plates (mostly for the side by side). The Cinematronics side by side is the coveted coin door for Dragons Lair enthusiasts. Anyway, I would try to find another Wico door and frame and use your Gottleib logo top door with it. It will work and look much better than a Wico/Coin Controls frankendoor. The Wicos were cast and the CC were stamped. You may have to search through a lot of ebay listings for "Arcade Coin Door", but they're common enough that you shouldn't have much trouble. The top door that you have for your Juno First is sought after by Q*Bert folks, by the way, as not all Q*Berts came with them.

OK guys, I purposely left out details to get you riled up. Those machines belonged to someone else. They were seriously water damaged and stripped of parts. The guy was completing 3 machines from 6 donors, and he was gracious enough to supply me with some parts to finish mine. So in the end, 2 very crappy water-damaged machines got sledge-hammered, while 2 got restored. ;)

Try it in MAME. The sound effects are all messed up on the 48-in-1.

New shell finally acquired!
It's housing "Arkanoid" right now and is painted grey, but the paint is coming right off real easy using a technique I just learned: packing tape.
How:
1. Apply strips of packing tape to surface and rub it for maximum adherence.
2. Peel off the tape. Paint comes off with it!
3. Repeat where bits didn't come off.
4. Remove final bits using ....... (TBD)
I will post photos and video tomorrow. It's quite cool to see it come off so easily and the condition of the art underneath so vibrant and glossy compared to my previous JF cabinet.

I have very little passion for this hobby any more. I got a lot more paint off the new project cab and am not interested in finishing the clean-up. The interior is stinky and not as clean as the first cab. So I am cutting my losses and donating cab #2 to whoever will take it (there's a guy here in Ottawa who has been looking for years for a Juno First).
I took a few parts the first was missing, like the Gottlieb coin door and back door mounting plate.

Recently I finally convinced myself that enough was enough.
A. I have no time for projects
B. I have no time for the hobby in general
C. I need money.
D. I need space.
So, after 11 years and not completing this ---gosh-darn--- project, I have SOLD IT and all parts for it. It is today on its way across the border to a soon to be fan, an 11 year old who holds the Mad Planets high score record (Twin Galaxies verified and everything!).
I'll still get to play Juno First on my MAME machine (once I get it fixed!).
Next on the chopping block: Galaga and Ms PacMan.
