Title: Heat Shrink 'F' Rating
Post by: Franco on July 11, 2005, 04:25:01 pm
I just went to order some heat shrinking but it seems to come in a range of diameters (im guessing) from F-15 to F-130

I'm assuming by the information given at the bottom of the page that the 'F' rating is actually the sleeve diameter (they have an F-25 listed as 2.4mm and F-70 as 6.4mm). If this is indeed the case (which you'll definitely want to confirm with the manufacturer) then you'd want to purchase F-100 (assuming 10mm) for standard Ethernet cable (roughly 1/4" diameter or 6.35mm for our friends across the pond).

Since standard heatshrink tubing shrinks to 50%-80% of its original size, this should suffice. If you are planning on connecting the Ethernet to a D-Sub connector as indicated in your post (I can't see the picture so I don't know the size connector), you could always go with the larger F-130 as well - would probably fan out smoother across the connector and produce a cleaner look.
