Title: WTB: Old School working Power Supply
Post by: bsoder52 on July 11, 2005, 12:10:31 pm
I need to power some pc fans in a Console Cab I'm building.  I'm looking to buy a working old school powersupply, the kind that stay on without needing to hack them.

I'd also buy a hacked Powersupply if it's been tested and working.

PM if if you have one for sale.  Looking for the cheapest solution I can find.

Thanks,
Bsoder52

Have you tried ebay? They seem to be going for $5+ 'buy it now'.

The oldschool ones are known as AT.

That too much? In that case your best bet may be to try and find a really old PC from somewhere to yoink an AT one from. I dont know what year AT's became obsolete tho so you may struggle. If not you should be able to find some very cheap/free ATX ones that you can connect the green/black motherboard connections (#13 + #14 if memory serves me correct).

I know you didnt have much luck with the first one that you tried. The first one I got didnt seem to work but I bought another one and it worked straight away and still does now. That may be your cheapest/easiest option if AT's are hard to come by.

Why can't you pull power from your existing power supply?

If you can't draw from an existing power source I'm sure I've got several old AT machines back in the warehouse.

I'd be happy to pull out a PS and ship it to you for the cost of shipping.

Send me an address and I'll be happy to check costs....should be something less than $5...probably more like $3.

I'd think that you could use a cable that normally supplies power to a floppy drive. Why not

This is the same power source that we are talking about. The floppy drive (and all the other drives) are powered from an AT/ATX PSU which is what bsoder52 is after.
