I have totally ditched the idea of using a 300MHz pc for my cab. I just bought on ebay a matched pair of Pentium III Xeon 800MHz processors for $23, a dual slot 2 motherboard for $15, 384MB RAM for $10, a 15GB HDD for $15, and a PSU for $5. I have a sound card, video card, CD and floppy drives. Will this work with MAME? Can I dedicate one of the CPUs to MAME entirely?

Mame does not take advantage of dual CPUs.
Also...I don't know what kind of power supply you got, but that's one thing you should never skimp on.

You will likely be O.K with with the PSU for those speed Xeon Processors. With that config, I would look for Windows 2000 Pro. Granted that MAME cannot take advantage of the extra CPU, but Win2K can, and it will be inexpensive compared to Windows XP. Mostly you will notice that switching between applications and and basic mutlitasking will pop-up.
Mame should run much nicer on that rig. I would use Mame .55 for that speed processor.
Good Luck!

I have a copy of 2000, so I dont have to worry about the price. Its a 400 Watt PSU pulled from an IBM
