What are some good games that work with a spinner?
-
Best spinner and trackball games (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=19817)
MAME games sorted by controller type (http://fe.donkeyfly.com/controls/gamesbycontrol.php#top)
360 degree wheel games (can be played with spinner) (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,28960.0.html)
GGKoul's great compendium of lists of games - this is where I dug up all the other links. Thanks GGKoul! (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,17208.0.html)

*cough* Gals Panic S *cough*
Hmmm... Had something caught in my throat there. What was the question again? ;D
-
Tempest, Arkanoid, and Breakout are all great games for a spinner.
-
Personal can't do without List, even though some of these were not technically used with Spinners they still play very well.
Omega Race (Better with Spinner)
Blastroids
Tempest
Cameltry
Major Havoc
Turbo (It's actually fun with spinner and no wheel)
Also, there is some cool Atari breakout puzzle game and the name escapes me for the moment, but I am sure someone here will remember it.

can games like Pole Position be played with a spinner?
-
Pole Position works great with a spinner, takes a little work to get the in game settings right but yes it works very well.
My favs, Tempest & Arkanoid.
-
Spinner games are classic, but there are not many, mainly I think people buy spinners for tempest. So $90 for one game...maybe two..
But it's a hell of a game!
A buddy of mine had an entire Tempest arcade unti. So $90 seems cheap in comparison!
;)
I just installed my 2 49-way joysticks, and most of my 52 buttons. I still have the spinner, trackball, molding, monitor, etc. to buy... Ouch $$$

Many driving games that used a wheel, used an optical wheel that
spins freely 360 degrees. Same as a spinner, so spinners work great for
these.
The added weight of the wheel, leverage, and even sometimes the gearing used - does work a bit better than just a spinner though. A little more fun and control with a real optical steering wheel assembly.
Also note, that some spinner games need trigger sticks - such as tron, and mad planets.

I'm glad someone finally got to Discs of Tron!
-
I have two spinners (hacked mice - one X-axis, one Y-axis) so I could play .......
WARLORDS ..... love that game

Do a search for the "nasty spinner" or just PM thenasty and I'm sure he can point you the page on his site where the instructions are.
And Tempest is reason enough to buy a spinner. If that were the only spinner game ever I'd still have one.

This is the age-old debate here. Most people seem to prefer trackball to spinner. I have to say, however, I was really surprised how much I grew to love my Vortex spinner. For single player games, I use my spinner quite a bit more than my Happ trackball (Now for party games, the trackball is unmatched.)

Of course it is - you could just build the controller optic board yourself, it's a matter of just a few simple components.
The question is why you'd want do that, since it would probably be more work than it's worth...
