is the response time on lcd monitors really important when playing mame games such as street fighter and tmnt. If so what is an acceptable response time and what games would have more of a problem
-
I don't think you'll have any issues with response time using emulators. You might see some issues in games with very fast screen scrolling, but for SF and TMNT I don't think you'll have any problem.

Actually I believe the response time on LCDs really IS important. Anything that moves quickly on an lcd with poor response time would blur. Maybe this is just an opinion but in shopping for LCDs, the refresh rate/Response time is really the most important thing aside from dot pitch (or whatever it is in LCD terms). BUT, the faster response times generate higher prices.
Samsung has some of the best response times, they are attractive and you can also find sweet deals on them on ebay and such. Check out the Samsung 712n for 17" and the 912N (or something like that) for 19".
Hope this helps! :)

It makes a big difference if you're playing first person shooters, driving games, and fast scrollers. Most flighting games and all the classics look fine with a cheap slow LCD.
I'm using a 16ms Samsung in my arcade cabinet and it looks great (and I'm pretty picky about monitors). Before I bought an LCD for my cab I borrowed a friend's old LCD to make sure it played arcade and console games without any problems. I also spent a lot of time on a laptop and didn't have any problems there.
For my primary PC, though, even 16ms is way too slow for games like BF2 and Half Life 2.

That's crazy, IMO. A total refresh of 25ms is just fine for gaming. Even if some ghosting occurs, you get used to it in no time so you don't even notice it.
When a monitor is advertised as having 16ms refresh, they are usually only giving you half of the story. 16ms might be the horizontal refresh, and then there is a 9ms vertical, making a total of 25ms.

I agree Veinman. I don't think I would even notice a 4-8ms difference if I tried. Now I didn't try playing a sped up game of UT, but in most games I've found 16ms to be fine and without ghosting.

The cheap acers I'm selling currently are 8ms for the 17" and 12ms for the 19"
Look around for the newer models and you can find sub 10 on the 17" for cheap.
