Title: Keyboard question???
Post by: greenacarina on December 20, 2002, 12:16:41 am
OK....so I want to run a regular keyboard (for "administrative" functions) as well as my hacked keyboard for my game controls. Seems like most people are running a "Y" cable, but just that stupid cable is $35 at my local store (Best Buy). What are some other options?
Thanks.

Buy a couple of mini-din sockets, a mini-din plug and some cable and solder one up yourself?  This would only cost a few $, just don't short the pins as they're quite fiddly!

DONT spend 35 bucks on a splitter... If you need to do so spend 40 on a ipac.  Trust me on this... the end result will be MUCH MUCH MUCH better.

but try to make one yourself.  for a buck or two you can't go wrong...

Or if you don't want to make one...
1) buy a usb keyboard.  They both work at the same time (I believe)

2) Buy a wireless (RF, not IR) keyboard.  these are GREAT for working on a cabinet when it's all closed off... you just keep the keyboard near it and put it up on top when using it.

I use an ipac and a wireless keyboard. It's nice and clean. I had a keyboard hack at one time for my cab but it was horrible so now I use an ipac. Unless you are playing nothing but classic games I'd fork out the money for the ipac. Or you can do what so many others have done including myself, and hack a keyboard first then figure out you need the ipac.
