Title: Any suggestions for a Jukebox?
Post by: spongebue on July 09, 2005, 02:17:26 am
Hey guys,

I just thought I'd give my needs, and see if you guys have any suggestions for what jukebox I use, since I am having so much trouble figuring out what to use. :(  This cabinet is primarily used for emulators, but I have a lot of hard drive space to burn.

Here's what I need:
1. No need for a mouse
2. ID3 abilities
3. ability to search for music in subfolders
4. work in Windows 2000
5. no number pad needed
6. Ability to take coins (if the software can do everything else but this, that's ok)
7. A good interface without the "Windows" look
8. something good for working with many well-sorted songs.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
spongebue

Apart from ID3 capabilities, SKJB will do the rest.  ID3 is on the list of things to do at some stage, but it's not exactly a priority right now.

Arcade MUSIC box does it all as well.

But with no search abilities, but I may add this in a feature version.

Mine does all that without the search, but will only work without a mouse if you have a touch screen LOL....

I am shocked at the amount of jukeboxes that don't have a search facility, this is the last think i need to add before i can actually release V1.0 However i think i also need to get the keyboard navigation complete so it will work in mame cabs as touchscreens still seem to be in the minimum.

I guess I should've reworded the searchable one, I meant that I just want it to detect music within subfolders.  I'll look into the ones you guys suggested, thanks  :D

I've never seen a real-life jukebox that had a search facility...

thanks guys, wincab jukebox was the answer, and I'm very happy with it :)   I was wondering, though, I have the button I want set to btn_select, and when I highlight my song or even button with the joystick, and press that button, it presses the select button on the program.  Is there some other button I'm missing?

Thanks,
spongebue

All the ones i have seen here in the uk have got a search facility. It is required when the jukebox has a wide range of tunes. We have one jukebox over here that connects to a server an had ever song i could think off, i was trying quite hard to catch it out but using the search it had everything i searched for and i did try some obscure tunes...  :P

Can anyone supply a link/info to any of these newer jukeboxs which connect to server - I'm particulary interested in how they organise the music/frontend. I've not come across one yet....

I think they're talking about something like this:

http://www.bmigaming.com/games-jukebox-internet.htm

The front end is called the eCast service:

Demo can be seen here:

Excellent thanks for those links....

... I see the answer is to use a huge screen.... Whereas I'm trying to get by on a 7" touchscreen....!
