Title: How do you get rid of XP "extras"?
Post by: nickbuol on July 08, 2005, 01:10:10 am
I have heard of people stripping Windows XP down to just what is needed to get their machines to boot faster, and then also using a frontend as their O/S shell.

Problem is, I have been searching the forums for about 45 minutes and still can't find anything on the topics, even though I know that they are here.

I would appreciate it if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Nick

www.blackviper.com used to be a great resource for this, but it seems to be down :(

Try googling for 'windows xp services', 'improving windows performance' etc.

Here's a thread I posted a few weeks ago, this may be of help.

Also you may want to try this utility to remove some of the extras.

http://www.nliteos.com/nlite.html

It creates a new XP bootdisk with all of the extras erased and any ustomisable features you want available on install.

I haven't tried this (just marked it), but there appears to be a free guide for tweaking windows xp here:
