Title: New Arcade Game in Dev: "Spire" ::Tentative Title::
Post by: stellarola on July 05, 2005, 09:40:43 pm
Hey everyone. I have been thinking about making this game lately. It's a puzzle game. A Vampire puzzle game. Try to think of the art style of like a Capcom. It's cute, in like a japanese game kinda way. Anyways, I'm looking for someone who is excellent at flash programming or someone who could actually program this game idea I have. I really will pay top dollar for you or someone to make this. I don't want to give too much away, it's a really good idea

Be careful when you say "top dollar". I'm afraid you may not know how much programmers charge. (This is coming from a programmer.)

I think because the game he is planning is pretty simplistic and 2D he could probably do it himself. That program is pretty intuitive.

I wish it would look like CPS2 graphics. Make like a homebrew MAME game...that would be sick  8)

Well then you need to hire a programmer AND a graphic artist.  If you are making a homebrew game and you don't have the talent to do at least one of the two, you are frikkin screwed.  :)

Rip some graphics from MAME and use that game maker, it looks pretty good.

Game Maker is pretty cool...

I did an Atari 2600 Space Invaders remake with it some time ago. It was a blast. :)

I'd love to help, but unfortunately all my stuff is java, and all my sounds are stolen.    ;D
Hmmm... as are the graphics, come to think of it.  Heh.

Say, JonnyBoy, on your recommendation, I'm gonna give gamemaker a shot. Might move me out of the java world. Would it handle something like the game at the above link?

Cakes and pies, cakes and pies!

Seems like I have a team of local people that can help with this project. I can't wait to show you all the game, we'll get to work on it as soon as we can. Until then, we will update with artwork, characters, story, etc.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm curious to see how it turns out. Try to make it arcade cab-compatible, ok?  :)

... and not just arcade-compatible gameplay. It needs arcade-compatible menus and exiting. Good luck!  ;D

Ray B makes games, shoot him a PM. I am beta testing a game for him right now.

It will totally be arcade cab-compatible. I plan on adding a "Insert coin" type system if at all possible. It's meant to be played with a joystick. I can't wait  ;D.

Sounds good, look forward to seeing it :)

Make sure you use mappable controls!
Title: New Arcade Game in Dev: "Spire" ::Tentative Title::

Hey everyone, I'm going to tell you all about this puzzle game that started as an idea and is working to be a full blown arcade game. The first thing that comes to mind for a puzzle game is Tetris, Puzzle Bobble, etc. I feel the genre lacks more robust titles with more tense situations. That being said, this game has no falling blocks. Yes, I repeat NO FALLING BLOCKS. No, this is a game of terror, sadness, revenge, destiny. You must forgive me for the lack of names, my team is discussing that.

Every 1000 yrs the master/head vampire needs a new heir to his throne. He goes to the village below his Spiraling looming castle to select the next prot

Intriguing so far. Is it one player only?

2 player as well, if possible. We have a few ideas on how 2 player will work. Think Zelda 4 swords where u have to work co-op to solve the puzzles

So it actually has stages and an ending rather than levels that just get harder and harder on until infinity?

Yeah I think more people would be interested in the project if you'd tag it with teh correct genre title.

Zelda:  The Four Swords is "officially" a:

"Top-Down, Real-Time, Adventure Game with havey Puzzle Elements"

This type of game might actually be worth the time and money to make if it's done well.

On the other hand.....

A "puzzle" game is something like Tetris or Bubble Bobble and trust me, unless you do something extremely innovative with a tetris-like game, nobody is going to be interested mostly because 12 of those come out in any given week and they are all essentially clones of either tetris, bubble bobble, or one of those staples.

From my experience, at its core, it's a Puzzle game. That means solving puzzles to get to the next area.

Well no offense, but your expreince must be flawed.  A game that involves doing anything other than solving puzzles (such as the four swords, in which you fight, explore, ect) is not simply a puzzle game. it hdefinately has puzzle elements, but it's not a puzzle game.  Hell, even nintendo doesn't call a game like that a puzzle game, and they should know, they make em.  A puzzle game is a game in which you only solve puzzles and nothing else.  Again, tetris and games like tetris are puzzle games.
