I've been watching this site for almost two years now and I finally decided to join.
Anyways, I purchased a cheap Defender cabinet that had been painted black and converted into a Crown's Golf. It has a William's coin door and power supply. A stargate bezel was also thrown in. So, I'm going to need to buy:
-marquee
-light
-speaker
-coin door trim (not included)
-coin door lock (also not included)
-new T-molding
-new speaker grill (old one was punched in)
-controls and overlay
-new bezel, eventually
I've already begun removing the paint. I've done two sides, the left side and the kick panel. I was afraid that a stripper would remove the original artwork, so I applied paint thinner and then sanded away the top layer of paint. This took me about 30-45 mins. to show all of the specific details.
Before I started using the thinner, I used some spray on goof off. It did NOT work well. It would take off little paint in some areas and all of the paint in others. So for my cabinet sanding was the best answer. So...
What I've got left to do:
-Fix and wire coin door
-remove paint and touch up (really touch up) artwork
-apply new T-Molding
-Install speaker and speaker grill
-Install new light/Marquee
-build a new control panel
So I just posted this for those of you who are interested. I probably won't be able to update this for a week to a month, but once I do the control panel should be built. I've also attached some pictures of the result of removing the paint. The original artwork is in bad shape, but I'm just repainting it anyways. Enjoy.

Cool. I look forward to watching this project.

As you think repair the artwork? stencils? or repaint with "hand mode"?

Yes, I will be doing it "hand mode" :(
But I think I have a few things to add to my cabinet that have never been done before. You guys should like it when I'm done.

not a frankenpanel i hope!
personally i would restore it back to 100% authentic. it is a classic machine that needs to preserved.
if you need 4 player joysticks with 6 buttons each + spinner + trackball etc.... make a custom cab

Yeah, I am going to be restoring it 100% back to the original cabinet. I am going to be adding things though. Don't worry, you'll see what I mean later. :)
