Title: Mirror mirror on the wall
Post by: scuzzie on July 03, 2005, 10:49:55 am
Near completion of a cabinet with a horizontal monitor and a mirror setup . . I found I was getting a shadow above and below the image/writing.  Initially thought it was a reflection between the glass, the mirror and the monitor,(TV),  but after removing the glass and experimenting with another mirror, found that it was the mirror itself that was causing the shadow effect.  Two questions: has anyone heard of a mirror causing this effect, (it looks fine when looking at myself in it square on), and it there a specific type of mirror that is necessary for lightguns?

thanks for any help

You must be using an ordinary mirror. These have the silvering on the back and that causes the double image or ghosting. You need to get a front silvered mirror. Edmund Scientific carries front silvered mirrors. Some high end cabinet and interior decorating stores carry front silvered mirrors.
