Ok bartop in wiring stages...I have a GP-Wiz that I am using. Found wiring diagrams on the boards for the Key-Wiz and received the wiring diagram for the GP-Wiz from RandyT. Question is are the board labels and pinouts the same? The reason that I ask is because the GP-Wiz diagram is a bit vauge and does not match the Key-Wiz diagram...Please help so I can finish this project and actually play a little

I've used both Key whiz and GP Whiz in different projects.
The Key Whiz is a keyboard encoder, seen as a keyboard encoder.
The GP Whiz is a gamepad device, seen as a gamepad with a joystick and some number of buttons.
I don't have either in front of me but the 40 pin headers (if you go that route) do not have the same "pinouts" exactly, no.
What exactly is the question(s) you are asking regarding the pinouts for the GP Whiz that are not defined within the document Randy supplies with shipment?

Yup, but it's really easy.

Yes. once a game is loaded in MAME, hit the TAB key and go to INPUT - GENERAL. Go into PLAYER 1 CONTROLS and then use the arrow keys on your keyboard to down to P1 Start. Hit the enter key and then press the button connected to the GP-Wiz that you want for P1 start. Do the same for P1 coin, & ESC.
If you want to ALSO use the regular MAME keyboard defaults then when you hit enter to put in the keypress (button press) do this: Hit enter, hit the button you want for P1 Start, hit enter again, press the 1 key. Now it will say P1 start is Button(whatever) AND 1.

The picture below shows what your directory structure should look like in your MAME directory. Where mine says Mame32 just substitute MAME.
Have you launched a ROM in MAME yet? You have to go to a command line prompt and change the directory to your MAME directory i.e.
cd c:\MAME\
Once you are there, type
Mame.exe -cc
This will create the initial .ini file for you. Make sure you then have your folders like in my screenshot below.

Make sure in the ini folder is a file called Mame.ini. This file contains the instruction to use joysticks.
