Title: CHD relocation
Post by: peanut on June 30, 2005, 02:00:09 am
Hi all, im looking for a way to put my CHD files in a different directory than my roms folder. RIght now i have a 20gig HD which is almost full due to regular mame and all the roms, and i just dled the CHDs which is 28 gigs and id like to put them all on my blank 30gig HD i have installed. Is it possible to specify a directory to point mame to the CHDS?

The short answer is YES.
The full answer requires you to tell us what version of mame you are using?

It does?  I thought he'd just specify the location in mame.ini (or mame.cfg for DOS or mame32.ini for Mame32, etc)

ie:

rompath  G:\mame90\tps;G:\mame90\maxaflex;G:\mame90\ar_bios;C:\CHD;

Peale is right, it doesn't matter which version, just setup the rompaths.

BTW, this is why I instantly don't like any FE that can not handle multiple rom paths, because mame can.

Actually.... it does matter which version of mame you are using.  Earlier compiles of mame didn't handle chds very well and you had to keep a copy of the rom uncompressed in the same folder as the chd.  Now this is no longer the case and as you both said, you simply setup the paths.  If using an older version, however, do what I just said.  :)
