Now all I need is a lawn-tractor story for the trifecta ;D
First for something I've NEVER heard of, and thought that this'd be hard as heck to pull off SOBER, much less drunk: http://www.nbc10.com/news/4659279/detail.html (http://www.nbc10.com/news/4659279/detail.html)
Second, and the funniest one, because WHO couldn't get away from this guy? The thing can't do more than half a mile per hour, and that's going downhill with a tailwind!
http://news.yahoo.com-DON'T-CUT-AND-PASTE-JUST-CLICK (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050629/ap_on_fe_st/reckless_shopping_cart;_ylt=AuBwC3tc09lvT8HumWxdAXCs0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3NW1oMDRpBHNlYwM3NTc-)
I KNOW I've read about a lawn tractor dude, and I've also heard about a golf cart....anyone else hear of some screwy ones?

I've driven a Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4 drunk... in Gran Turismo 3. :D Great fun...

You can get a DWI for operating any self-propelled vehicle. That includes horses here in TX. You can still legally ride a bicycle while drunk, though!

Wait a minute. The horse moves itself, you don't propel it. The bicycle you have to move in order to make it go. You're telling me there's a ticket for the horsey ride, but not for the bike ride? Are you sure those aren't mixed up?
If not, if I were you, I'd get drunk and ride my horsey into town, and after I got a ticket, I'd fight it in court. Go to court on your bicycle. Drunk. That'll show 'em. ;D

The theory is that a vehicle is more difficult to keep under control if it is self-propelled. If you stop peddling a bike, it'll stop on its own. A car/truck/go-kart/airplane/horse/motorcycle/electric scooter will just keep going and hit something.
-
Is the horse allowed to be drunk?
-
Here in Cali, you can get a penalized for just being drunk in public. My dad actually walked to a bar so he wouldn't drive home drunk and was stopped on the way home and fined for public intoxication...Such crap...he wasn't beligerent or anything...Makes me wanna drink just thinkin' 'bout it.
-
...reminds me of Ron White.
"I don't wanna be drunk in public. I wanna be drunk in a bar. I was gettin' drunk in a bar. Those two guys threw me into "public". I wanna press charges!"

hhmmmm, that tells me he's got away with drinking since 1994 and just got caught now when he pushed his limit.
But anyway,
Sometimes, I drive better when drunk ;D and I seem to get tickets when I'm not drunk :o
-
Fantastic. I used to drive the Zam for years---and did it once after a few 'friendlies'. Even then---never managed to his the boards (and cut a pretty nice sheet of ice, too).

But, my question is, can I be charged with DWI/DUI while operationg a vehicle on my own (or other) private property?

Do you need a license to drive that vehicle on that property?
-
Well, I guess it depends on what you drive. Car, motorcycle, etc. : sure. But I don't need a license for a moped or a bike--and I know I can get a DWI/DUI violation on those. Just curious...

Same thing happened to my brother in law a few weeks ago. He was arrested for public intoxication while waiting for a cab outside a bar. Way to encourage drinkers to take a cab home Officer Friendly.

I believe what it's attempting to do is discourage people from going out and getting sloshed in the first place. Practically, though, people are not going to stop drinking, they're just going to get back in their car and drive drunk again instead.
You have to have a license to use a moped or motorbike on private property here, as well as written permission from the property owner.

Don't be a fool. When you're drunk you also think that girls find you more attractive and funny. They don't. It's the alcohol talking. It's physiologically impossible that you are capable of driving better drunk than sober. Your motor skills, depth perception, reaction time, and peripheral vision are severely impaired. Period. Don't be an a-hole. Have a damn cab take you wherever you're going if you're planning on drinking. If you end up drunk when you weren't planning on it, have a cab take you home and go pick up your car in the morning. How hard is that? It's going to cost you a whole $7 - $12. Even if you don't care about other peoples' lives, consider that the first DWI you get will cost you at least $1500 up front, your car will be impounded and your car insurance will skyrocket. You could pay for a hell of a lot of cab rides for $1500. It's just retarded on so many levels..
When my brother got a DWI a couple years ago he just had to switch to riding a bike and taking public transportation. With his ticket and considering that the car was only worth $500-1000, he didn't even get it out of impound. He just lost it. Totally screwed up his routine. He does all the booking for a bar in Salt Lake City. He had a few beers throughout the night and spent the last hour drinking water heavily to make sure he'd be alright if he got pulled over (the cops hang out a block down the road around closing time and just start randomly pulling people over who leave the bar parking lot, which is where he got pulled over. The legal limit here is .08 and he was at .10. It's only a matter of time, you will get a DWI, whether you think you're driving well or not. Like I say, my brother was within the legal limit in many states and just a hair over the limit here. He had been driving for ONE block. He didn't get pulled over for swerving or anything like that. He got pulled over because he was leaving a bar parking lot and so had pretty good odds of testing positive.

Only if it's on a bike.

Frankly, I think the .08 limit is too low.
Sure, and I think our limit of 0.05 is too high. Even by 0.05 your reflexes are reduced by as much as 75%. And the fact remains that random breath testing has reduced the long term trends for car accident deaths in australia dramatically (which are responsible for more aussie deaths than the world wars combined). :'(
My master plan is due for a pickup very soon though. I'm pretty sure once petrol hits $2 a litre I'll be able to pass that bill about it being illegal not to use public transport... ;D

Like I said:
You might as well say "ANY indication of alcohol at all in your system makes you 'drunk'"
Even by 0.05 your reflexes are reduced by as much as 75%.
And Roni Deutch can settle your IRS debt for as low as $20
-
IMO, the limits are too high. Too many people walk that line of "oh, I'm sober ENOUGH" while their judgment is impaired anyway. The peanalties should be harsher and the limits lower.
It's a simple behaviour problem and since people won't behave, slap them harder until they do.
-
Somebody who drinks regularly can have 0.05 and function normally.
Will their judgement be impaired? Well yes most likely, but their loss of ability is probably similar to anyone who goes to work sober but sleepy on an early Monday morning.
On the flip side.... Give a giggly 17 year schoolgirl a single beer and she will probably show you her knickers and throw up.
The legal line has to be drawn somewhere. I personally don't drink and drive and see no good reason to do so but 0.05 seems to suit the ability of the masses.

/me grabs a beer and a barf bag and goes searching for a giggly 17 year old schoolgirl

The "ability of the masses" should actually have nothing to do with it, also, the zero-tolerance isn't required. The vast majority of the problems come from failure to enforce the law, or far too weak penalties. If the consequences were stiff enough and enforced, people WOULD self-police themselves, and those that didn't would be removed from decent society.
I'm all for (although it won't ever happen) tattooing their foreheads with "I'm a drunk driver". Same with child molesters. Child molesters, as a matter of sentencing, should have their foreheads done before they leave the courtroom. Perhaps train the court steno's how to do it.

Child molesters are a virus and should be treated with antibiotics in the form of a bullet to the temple. Rarely does prison reform their ways and they just repeat offend. Save everybody the pain and financial burden of institutionalization and just execute them after being found guilty.
Harsh but fair and the most altruistic action our society could take.

Here, Here, I agree with that 100 %

I've seen someone driving a Bobcat (skid steer loader) on a construction site arrested for DUI.
-
It's physiologically impossible that you are capable of driving better drunk than sober.
That's not necessarily true.
-
No, none of that stuff affects my argument one way or the other as long as you make fair comparisons. An angry drunk person will drive worse than an angry sober person. An angry exhausted and/or talking on a cell phone person will drive worse drunk than sober. If you're going to add the extra variables into one control group you have to add them to the other.
Their respective training and experience can make a difference. For example, Germany requires a level of driver's education comparable to race driving school here in the US. While a drunk german wouldn't drive better than a sober german, they would likely still drive better drunk than most americans do sober. ;)

Still not relevant.

Not a drunk driver but fits into this thread.........

Chad Sues Mass. For Right To Put Foot In That Guy's Ass
You know what happeend, same thing that always happens. Cops showed up to break up a rowdy party, dude is drunk and mouthing off. He makes contact with an officer and they slap cuffs on him. They likely did him a favor by not charging him with assault on an officer of the law, instead simply taking him into 'protective custody'.

I found a new one out of Indiana...........

Okay that's kind of stupid, the car has to at least be going faster than you can run.
