I debated on where to put this.
I contemplated the Buy,Sell,Trade forum, but since I'm not the seller, I decided against it. Feel free to move this as needed.....maybe to a "Hot Deals" forum? ;)
Anyway, I stopped by Best Buy tonight to pick up a hard drive for my server so I can throw linux back on it instead of using VMWare.
I came across the Western Digital 120GB drives that were priced at $99.99. Not too bad. I started to pick one up while checking the other drives when I stopped. There was a sticker there that said there were $60 in rebates, so the final price was $39.99.
Since I needed a drive anyway, I picked one up.
From what I understand, the offer is:
1. Good for 1 per household
2. Must be purchased by tomorrow (6/25/2005)
3. Contains a $30 rebate from Best Buy
4. Contains a $30 rebate from Western Digital
5. Must be sent in within 30 days
6. Will be recieved within 6-8 weeks.

The 250GB (yes Gigs) version is $60.

that second deal is a lot better

Someone tell me that these really aren't 120MB and 250MG drives ...
Cheers.
-
I can't speak for the 250 GB drive. I didn't need anything that big and was looking to spend a total of the least amount of money for what I wanted. I also have other 120 GB WD drives in my server so that was another reason I picked one up.
And now that my torrent for Fedora 4 is cruising at around 560 kB/s, I should be installing it shortly. :)

Gig....I'm sure. Nobody would pay that much for a 250MB drive.

Ah...I see. It's been a long week. I've corrected the MB in my posts.
-
I also checked the price of the 250 on Bestbuy.com (which by the way, indicates that the drive is sold out).
The price for this drive (after rebates) is $69.99

If you have a Fry's near you it's $19.99 after rebates. I had one and put it back, really cheap but I don't really need it right now. I got in on a 250 gig for $79 out the door from Staples ;D
FYI from Fry's....

In my experiences Western Digital makes some of the best drives out there. Especially the 8mb cache ones. I would go buy the 250 but I hate rebates... hate them.

The 120 is working fine for me so far! :)
Fedora 4 is up and running (dual boot with Windows XP on the other drive using Grub).
And there's still ~90 gig available. And if I run out of room, well I just get more drives. This server can handle quite a bit if I need it to. There's a raid controller in it that can also act as a normal IDE controller and there's also a SATA controller as well.
So I can use this beast to heat the entire upstairs (j/k, but it does make the one room a little warmer) while I sit downstairs in the cooler air working from the ol' laptop.

LOL.
We call my server a "coat warmer" in the winter time. It lives in the coat closet, and bumps the temp i the closet up a good 12-20 degrees.
It's got a total of 10 hard drives in it.... 8 of them on a RAID 5 controller card.
Sorry for the brief detour.... back to cheap HDs.

www.dealsea.com had a $10 instant coupon code too making it $59.99.

Watch these sites for good deals:

good deals on drives often...

btw, I did this about 9 months ago last time the deal came around.
And I got my rebates about 3 or 4 months later.
So even though its a little slow, its still worth it.
And the drive works great! I might have to buy another one.
