Basically I plan on using these buttons on my mini CP
http://www.happcontrols.com/pushbuttons/5400042x.htm
see pic below. It uses a 14v incandescent bulb (or a 12v LED) What I'm wonderin is if I can hook the power up to my computer for the 12v and still hook it up to the ipac so it blinks and lights acording to scroll lock and caps lock on the IPAC in MAME(tm)
Thanks for any help

I'm not sure what voltage the I-PAC outputs, but just wanted to say that I run these (14v bulbs) on a 9.6 volt transformer (remember all of those 9.6V Turbo Power! RC cars?).
So, I know that didn't answer your question, but just wanted to say that these are plenty bright with ~ 9.5 volts instead of 14.

I figure that I'll have to power the lights from somewhere other than the IPAC.
But what about controling the lights from the IPAC?
So that it blinks when a coin is inserted into slot one or whatever?
Will that be possible?

yes its possible, but you will need something like the led driver board that gamecab sells. You will have to modify the design for your application.

or a relay, but I'm not sure of the specs you would need for one.

How would I modify the gamecab led driver?

I just did this last week. Here's the thread, there's a cut-n-pasted circuit diagram at the bottom of the page:

It works great. I'm using it to control a light and coin lockouts (so now when the wife puts tokens in when the frontend is running, they go straight to the coin return)
