Title: New regulation regarding websites
Post by: DemonBrew on June 24, 2005, 08:26:49 am
This is kind of a FYI, and it deals with pr0n type sites, but it has a much bigger impact, as you will see. If you post ANY kind of "adult" pics on any site, you might want to read this.

There's a new regulation that requires any website that contains "adult" material to have some record keeping method of the names and ages of the models portrayed. Sounds ok, it's supposed to protect against child porn. BUT, what if you don't have the original records?

In an extreme example, people posting from a web cam will have to post their name, age, and address online. How's THAT for online protection? "Adult dating" or "HotOrNot" type sites where you post your own photos are going to have some major impacts. Also, if you are a photographer or painter and have samples of your work online, you'll have to have records of all your models on file.

This is another example of a good idea implemented with the precision of a chainsaw. This is not about the morality of porn, this is about the goverment taking away personal freedoms and intruding on your life. Read all about this atrocity:

What this really prevents is websites full of stolen images.  How are you going to steal an entire adult site worth of material from other sites and charge $15/month for access now?

I enjoy porn about as much as an average person, but there is just so much out there, I see nothing wrong with tightening it up a bit.

I think thats laughable?  any regular p0rn site probably keeps that stuff on file anyway.  Just like they require for the movies.  Any other site like hotornot could move their servers out of country.  It only applies to servers or sites that originate in U.S.

I think you're missing the point. Bigger picture: the gov't is way too involved with imposing morals and collecting private information. This is just another example. Ashcroft covering up statues, the Patiot Act, Carnivore system, the Real / National ID....

Looks like all the pr0n will have to move offshore, like online gambling. If they weren't already.
