Title: Arcade VGA ready to go?
Post by: skybluestav on June 24, 2005, 06:54:04 am
Just need an opinion from guys who have used the arcade VGA from ultimarc.

is there any configuration I will need to do once installed in the PC or is it just boot and go?

Is the arcadeVGA pre-configured and fully ready to go with no configurations needed?

Im still crosseyed between PC monitor and arcade monitor, cos the 25" monitor is already installed in the cabinet, and it looks so BIG and cool, but is there any chance if I do keep the monitor that I will have any problems?

anything I need to know about the arcadeVGA?  ???

please help... :-\

It requires the same installation process as any other graphics card (drivers and software).  After installing the card, you'll probably also want to use one of the AVGAres tools to configure MAME to output the proper arcade resolutions for the various games.

anything else that will need doing?

I know I will have to find the wire that connects to the monitor and connect that to the graphics card and also insert the graphics card in the PC and also use that program for correcting the ressolutions of some games...

anything else?

does it make any difference if I use other emulators? like snes and genesis?

Once you get the monitor wires connected, it's pretty much plug and play, but you may want to search the forums as some folks have had driver issues (so, also be sure to download the latest drivers from ultimarc.com). I have never had a problem with either of mine.

Depending on your monitor, you may find running normal Windows apps a little tough, so I always try to have the machine 99% configured before I drop in the ArcadeVGA.

Cheers.

Depends on the emulator.  If you're using a standard arcade monitor and not a fancy multisync like a Betson or WG9200 you'll need to be sure you can set the emulator to run at a resolution that the monitor can display properly.  I actually ended up purchasing a Betson just to make it easier/more effective when running all those other emulators (and for the fact that it remembers the geometry settings for each resolution within MAME, rather than having to readjust for different resolutions/settings).
