Post by: Big Ben on June 23, 2005, 02:24:40 pm
O.K. please don't kill me for asking this question. What do things like coin doors plug into so that they work like real arcade mahine coin doors. The have those wierd teeth looking things that I know wouldn't plug into an I-pac. Also waht do things like most arcade guns plug into? Thanks for all the help.

Coin doors just have microswitches on them that plug into your iPac just like your buttons & sticks.

I'm presuming that's a JAMMA connector.  In light of all the general questions you've been asking, I think it's a good time to refer you to the FAQ thread to get yourself acquainted with what you'll be dealing with.  Look at the sticky thread at the top of this forum and read through it.

Ok first, arcade guns won't work with a PC.

Second, you need to know basics of a JAMMA arcade cabinet before the inside of your machine makes any sense. Refer to the FAQ (frequently asked questions) for advice.

If what you find there still doesn't make sense, refer to a website called PC2JAMMA. Just google it.

You should really consider purchasing an ohm meter.

but most (if not all) coin doors work exactly the same as a button.  They have a ground on one side... And a connection to the keyboard on the other... And when a coin drops through, it quickly presses the button.

But with an ohm meter (or continuity tester) you can figure out what ends you need to hack into on the coin door...  For mine, I only use two of the 6 connections going to it.  I didn't bring power to the coin doors for the LEDs or anything.
