Title: Windows XP problems
Post by: southpaw13 on June 23, 2005, 12:06:41 pm
Hello, I just built a new system with Win XP and for what ever reason, it is recognizing my harddrive(on primary master IDE) as drive I instead of C.  It works fine, but it's really bothering me.  One of my USB drives is recognized as C.  Is there any way to fix this without starting over?

Thanks,
Southpaw

Try going start-control panel-administrative tools-computer management
A menu will now be open.

Click on disk management and a snapshot of your harddrives will be visible in the bottom right. Right click on the selected drives and you should be able to change the letters.

I had this happen to me once when installing some new drives. My primary ended up as E or something with my secondary took the C and my some other drive (zip, cd, dvd) took D.

As Marc said, I went into the administrator tool and played "musical chairs" with them in order to get them the way I wanted.
