I know this has been asked three hundred trillion times but I can't seem to find it.
What I would like to know is if someone has created a FAQ or something that basically says what hardware is needed for each game in MAME.
For example:
Game (Minimum Specs):
=================
PacMan (486, 32MB Ram)
Metal Slug (Pentium 3, 500MHz)
etc.
I just got a free P3 733 128MB Ram and ATI Radeon 7000 with Composite out and was wondering what would run great with it.
Thanks!

There is no FAQ (to my knowledge) like that... plus it would be very cumbersome to look through all the games in MAME IMHO.
The best advice I can give you after seeing this question so many times, is focus on a few versions of MAME.
If you have a very old system, most people would recommend using Vantage. I'd say anything under 300mhz or so... someone running it please chime in and fix this, I've never personally used a much older system. You might be able to run MAME .36 on a system like this also (??)
In the 500mhz to 1ghz range, a lot of people seem to recommend .36 or .55 .36 and .55 seem to have been pretty significant releases, so they are mentioned a lot.
For your system, i would put MAME .55 on it. I have a 900mhz bartop downstairs that runs .55 and almost every game runs perfect. There are only a few trouble games in .55 (MK I think?) but I just deleted those games after reading they might cause trouble, and after I tested them myself.
There haven't been a ton of good games added in since .55 IMHO, so you really won't be missing out on much. Hope that helps.
