Title: I need some help
Post by: leglez on June 21, 2005, 08:15:46 pm
Ok well im wanting to add more speakers, and some way to listen to my own music when playing other games to my arcade cabinet the setup i have right now is 19" TV and a n64 so what i thought about doing was just put a dvd player in it wire it up to the tv and then get some speakers and wire them into the tv speakers but i found out that wont work so now im wondering could i get one of those little boombox things and wired speakers into the boomboxes speakers and then run an rca wire from the output of the boombox to the input of the tv if this wont work do you have any suggestions for getting more speakers and i dont want rca computer speakers also is there any way to wire up a sub to it?

"the setup i have right now is 19" TV and a n64 so what i thought about doing was just put a dvd player in it wire it up to the tv"

Assuming you are using line level audio inputs on the TV, and also assuming your DVD(CD?) player has line out...

Theres a simple circuit here:

http://www.tkk.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/linesum.html

that looks like it won't blow anything up.  Look for the part that says "This is the correct way."  Should let you plug both your N-64's audio and the CD's audio into the audio in on the TV.

As for the sub, I'm sure theres an active crossover out there somewhere that would let you pick off the subs frequencies and feed them to a powered sub.  I used to have an old radio-shack active crossover in my car to drive a seperate amp for the subs...  Worked like a charm.

That help any? :)

Umm i understand the second part but the first one i dont really understand im not asking how to have my dvd player and tv audio go at the same time im asking how can i add more speakers to it i looked at adding speakers to the tv speakers by just splicing into the wire and soldering speakers into it but someone told me i would not be able to do this so what i am now asking is would i be able to get a miniature stero also known as a boombox and open it up and mount it inside the cabinet then run an rca cable from the output cable to the tvs input cable and run another rca cable from the input spot to the tvs output spot so if i want to listen to the game i can listen to it through the speakers or if i want to listen to a cd i can put it in the cdplayer and it will play

You're going to run into impedance problems if you just start wiring up extra speakers that way. I wouldn't reccomend it.

Ok then what do i need to do?  Do the OHM ratings need to match up if so how can i change them

OK, then I misunderstood.  Seems like you are talking about two different things.

You can add speakers in multiples without impedance issues - ie, an 8 ohm impedance can be matched by:

2 16 ohm spkrs in parallel
4 8 ohm spkrs hooked up series-parallel
etc, etc.

Perhaps get a friend with a bit more electronics experience to assist?

Alternatively, find out if your TV has audio out and add a small amplifier and seperate speakers?
