Hi All - Im building a 70% pac man cab right now. It will have a 4 way stick and probably 4 buttons. I am thinking of using the ipac ve (but I dont know if the pc I use will have usb!). Is there another cheap and great (I know these two words do not go well together :o) way to interface just 8 switches like I have planned? Also, I do have a soldering Iron, but no soldering skills. Thanks!

gamepad hack?

The TOKN KB16 gets ragged on for ghosting, but you'll never use more than 1 button at a time in Pac Man anyways. Plus it's only about $20 or less.
-
So based on your statement, you want something cheap that is not USB?
Keywiz Eco no solder. Use it with an IDE cable. $23.00 plus shipping. Go to

I didn't realize they had a no solder option other than the MAX.

I've seen a lot of people say the same thing. I've seen it enough that RandyT might want to make this more prominent on his website. (hint, hint)

I'm still not seeing it...

It is buried to far.

That would explain it...

Why 4 buttons?
You must really like Mouse Trap, because it is the only 4-way vertical game that uses more than 2 buttons.
It would probably make more sense to go with the uncluttered 2 button setup rather than installing 2 extra buttons for a game you are never going to play. Even if you do want to play it, you still can simply by mapping the start buttons as buttons 3 and 4 (buttons 2 through 4 hardly ever get used in Mouse Trap).

Mouse trap uses four buttons?

The KeyWiz Eco is THE way to go. I just installed a KeyWiz Max and really like it a lot. I highly recommend Randy's goods. Not that I have used a bunch, but what I have used I like.
Good Luck

I really meant, just 2 buttons on the cp, and then 1 for start and 1 for coin. I may even just use the "shazaaam" function for coin. Thanks for the posts. Has anyone used the kb16 though? I'd be interested to know the best way to install them...

Why???
I've tested the KB16, as has RetroBlast, it can work (for your setup), but you would want to wire Button 2 to Button 3 on the KB16, Wire 1P Start and Coin 1 as indicated, Wire Escape to Button 5 and Pause to Button 7 (if you wanted these) and then re-program the unit to match.
My question is why you would want to go through this much hassle when a KeyWiz Eco is less money and supports 32 inputs and 20 shifted inputs, software reprogramming, etc, without all of this hassle?
My KB16 test is here - http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,37906.0.html
