I'm a pretty weak guy, but I have a couple of stronger friends, here is the situation. I have a cab that has the wood at the bottom water rotted. here is a generic pic

Get stronger guys, that's pretty much it, unless you want to build a pulley system.
-
If you're not strong enough to lay the cabinet down, taking out the monitor could prove even more difficult.
If it's an "easy" one (that has handholds, and a mounting board) you are going to be armcurling the thing out of the front of the cabinet, on the board, and trying not to scratch/break anything in the process.
I would guess most 19" monitors are in the 70 lb+ range.
If the thing is bottom mounted to the cabinet, you may end up in a really bad position to be lifting anything, and have to hold it up while someone else unbolts it, and then armcurl it out of the back of the cab--again trying not to scratch/break anything.
I would just get a bunch of guys, rock the cabinet back as-is, and set it down nicely.
Nobody should be holding more than 40 lbs, or so, that way.

I put my cab (Konami TMNT-style) onto a dolly (hand-truck) and had a really tough time tilting it back by myself.
-
I guess what I'm saying is that (if it's like my cab) you don't have to worry about it falling back onto the floor until it's far past the 45-degree-to-the-ground angle.

Wine coolers, Barry Manilow, and soft lighting?
-
I say just take it down without worry.
Anything that brakes is probably be replaced anyway :)
but really... the dolly is a good investment... or rent one for 7 bucks from uhaul.

Anyone with cabs should have a hand truck. $30 will save you endless problems.

Without a monitor in it, I had no issue tipping back my Konami TMNT cabinet (or bringing it back up). In fact, I loaded it and pulled it off of my truck all by myself. It's all in the approach. I also brought my PacMan on it's back (and back up) by myself to inspect the condition of the artwork at the feet.
First of all, keep that thing either above you or right in front of you. The further that thing gets out in front of you (such as when you step back), the worse leverage you get and the more chance you have of hurting your back. That brings me to another point. Use your arms and legs, not your back.
If you have a chunk of 2x4 or something to lay across the ground in front of you so you don't smash your fingers when you reach the ground, there shouldn't be alot of people that can't handle bringing most machines to their backs.
If you're prone to back injuries or seriously weak, don't try it. Otherwise, I think an average person could handle most situations just fine. Heck, I have back problems, but I never seem to hurt myself moving machines around. Maybe I should take my own advice, but I've done it and lived to tell.
What sort of cabinet are we talking about? What size monitor does it have?

Just curious, what 'size' are you?
-
I'm 5'10" and weigh about 180 pounds. I don't know what that comes to in metrics.
-
A healthy man of that size should have no problem doing that alone. If he can't do it he needs to get into better condition, because that is more than enough size to lay an empty cab onto its back.
-
Tilting a cab backward and laying it down is really easy, even with the monitor still in it! Most of the weight will be distributed to the floor at first, and then it will be spread even between floor and you. Just make sure you have a good grip, and lower it down!
*Only caution is if it has wheels....
-
Buy it a couple of drinks first?

*rimshot*

Lighter fluid - $5.00
Match - $0.50
___________________________
1. Soak cab with lighter fluid.
2. Light match.
3. Run
4. Douse with water (optional*)
5. Carry smoldering remains to new location.

You shouldn't have too much trouble, particularly with a couple of helpers.
I wouldn't remove the monitor, but I would check that it is securely mounted and that nothing else is floating around too loose inside.
Good luck.
Cheers.
