Title: PLEASE HELP FIRE HAZARD QUESTION!

Hi. I was working on my x arcade unit putting it in a custom case. I forgot to drill the hole for the programming button on the back. So I did it after everything was together. ( ya I know it was a stupid thing to do but I was The bit went through and tangled around the white wire that connects the player 1 and 2 buttons. It was not torn through but the plastic stripped off down to the bare wire in a 2-inch spot. I used electrical tape and sealed the exposed wire. Every thing works fine now. My question is will this cause a fire hazard. Im guessing it wouldn

I doubt it , you put electrical tape around it. That's what electrical tape is for.
If it bugs you, change the wire. I don't think the wire would get hot enough. I think only 5v go through the button wires. Plus if its on the button there wired for normally open so no electricity is going through them unless the button pressed

It should not cause a fire hazzard, I would put shrink tubing around the wire instead of electrical tape.

So long as you have repaired and insulated the wires as good or better than they came out of the factory, you're fine. The important thing is to ensure you dont short anything out.

Are we talking about a wire that goes to buttons? The voltage is too low to be a real fire hazard. So your taping it up is good enough.

Ray's correct.

The only hazard would be sending the wrong button press or sending an unattended button press.

Of course there is the explosion hazzard :)

Anything that is flamable is a fire hazard...lol

Seriously, I would rip it out and redo it.  Not because it is dangerous, but because it would aggrivate the hell out of me knowing it was like that...but that's just me.   ::)
