Hello People
I was wondering if I could get some opinions on a project I have going.
It was originally a Galaxian cab, but somewhere along the line it got butchered.
I am trying to decide what to do... restore it to Galaxian or turn it into Pac
Also I will have to totaly refinish the sides (sideart) and front,
Should I Paint the cab and have a silk screen made or should I have a vinyl print made for my artwork...
opinions...

Depends on if you are maming it or restoring it as an actual arcade game?
-
IMO Restore it back to a Galaxian asthetically. Great looking cab...(better than Galaga imo). The artwork is readily available on the online 'Arcade Art Library' and then get it digitally printed on vinyl...properly!(use textured laminate on the CPO) Forget silkscreening..$$$. Then decide whether you want to fit it out as an original Galaxian or hybrid mame cab.
Search the forum to your hearts content...and all the answers will be at your disposal for just such a project.
Simple really!

Thanks for the response.
I was leaning towards Galaxian, even though I love pac. And I think I'm going to keep it as a dedicated cabinet as I have 3 MAMEs allready. Just hope to find a place to do my printing that doesn't cost a small fortune here in Calgary. I tried Kinkos here but the guy said the biggest print he could do was 8-1/2 by 11... what a joke!
::)

If you're going back to dedicated, I'll agree with the Galaxian suggestions - definitely a nice looking cab. If you decide to MAME, I'd suggest splitting the cab, creating your own artwork and turning it into a "slightly older-school" version of the Ms. Pac/Galaga reunion cab with Pac/Galaxian...
Actually I'm really liking that idea... If you don't do it, I might make that MY next project. ^^

With decent illustrator or equivalent skills, that idea could be obscenely impressive! :D

Here's the marquee. I reduced it to keep it under 512kb, but this is what I was thinking... thanks to the response.

How about something a little more in line with the original reunion marquee, rather than just squishing down? Just thrown together, but for example:
-
Yeah thats a good idea.
Anyone have a link to a hi-res bally\midway logo?

Thanks for the link, I found it before I read this but thanks anyways...
The freaking thing was right under my nose all along.

Thanks to Grueinthebox for the awesome idea for the marquee (I really like it), so I came up with this for my CPO.

Isn't it a bit re dundent to have start buttons for both games? Maybe you should check out the reunion CPO and use it for a model. I haven't seen one, so if that's the way it is, just ignore my rambling. ;D
-
Yeah thats the way the reunion is done, however I haven't actually played the reunion so I don't know how it works, like if you rack credits you use the pac buttons to play pacman and the galaxian ones to play galaxian?

Exactly!

Yeah, the game that plays is dependent on the start buttons used. However, the reunion machines don't have a unified front-end, either. They just switch between games on the fly whenever you choose the appropriate start button. If you walk up to the machine and it's showing Ms Pac Man, you can dump in a quarter, hit Galaga's start button, and it'll fire up a game of Galaga. Then, when the game is over, it'll just sit there in Galaga's attract mode until you dump in a wuarter and hit a Ms Pac Man start button. MAME and MAME frontends don't work that way. You typically have to enter a game, insert credits, play the game, and then back out when you're done if you want to play another game. The same set of start buttons is always used.

Yep, that's what I'm planning on doing... thanks for letting me know the sequence of operation.
I'm not planning on MAMEing the machine... It will have two boards and I will come up with switching between boards similar to a 2-jamma board loom setup.
