Title: Starting the cosmetic work on my arcade
Post by: spongebue on June 15, 2005, 06:48:11 pm
Well, I have the computer stuff all worked out (I think... I hope...) and now it's time for me to work on making the cab pretty  :))

First, I have the bezel.  Right now, it has the Donkey Kong design on it.  It's in pretty good shape... is this the kinda thing I would be hunted and killed by collectors for if I took it off?  I don't think it would be very valuable or anything, since it is a common game.  If I should take it off, what should I use?  I was thinking of using hot water and a stiff brush, but am not sure if that will take it out well... maybe add something to take it out?

Next, I have painting the cab itself.  What would be the best choice to paint it?  I already have a good air compressor, and I'm pretty sure I have a paint sprayer (otherwise, I should be able to get one) but I'm not sure what to use, when to sand, etc.  I'm hoping to have it be a satin black.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
spongebue

Is this a Donkey Kong cabinet you're taking apart? Pictures would a help. A random Donkey Kong stuck to a piece of glass is worthless, but an original Donkey Kong bezel is worth a few bucks.

If this is an original Donkey Kong, I'm not going to ask about the machine's current playability or condition. I'd probably rather not know.

well, when I got the cab it had a U.S. Classic board in it, (I think... it used a USC CP and marquee) and the cab was painted over, so the design is not there

The bezel itself is in pretty good shape and is original, AFAIK.

sorry it's a bit washed out, but it's hard to get a good picture of stuff with my camera :(

would you say it would be worth it to sell this bezel and get a new one?  Also, are the bezels at mamemarquees.com just the design, or does it have the glass as well?  I doubt it's the glass, but you never know :)

thanks,
