I recently got my hands on a 4-player Xmen cab, I was wondering if there was a website I can go to where I can find out how to access the test menu (the place where you can mess around with settings like "free play" and what not) screen?
Well since we're on the topic of my cabinet... overall it's in pretty good condition, but it's also painted black (I'm not sure if there is any artwork underneath, but I'd love to check it out eventually). It would be nice if I can get the matching xmen sideart replaced but I may also consider turning it into a mame cabinet sometime in the future (4-player type games only). What would you guys suggest, keep it black or add xmen/or custom side art?

Get the manual form somewhere. I did a search online, not at any of hte free places. Depending on the xmen game you have you might get one from here.

Does it use dipswitches or a menu to adjust settings? I haven;t played it in mame so I wouldn't know.

I think i read on the KLOV website where it mentioned that this game didn't use dipswitches. I haven't looked at pcb since I got it (my kids are always on it whenever I get home), but I'll check it out tonight. Thanks

Then there is usually a test switch. Where and how it is connected I don't know :)

Check inside your coin door. Is there a volume knob and perhaps some sort of switch near it?

Actually there is a module/bracket/metal thingy just inside the coin door with a volume knob and an arcade button, but the button just adds a credit after pressing it. I'll have to look deeper in, maybe i missed another button somewhere.

if dipswitches, then you need the manual to know which switch does what.
-
Once you're in the settings it will tell you whats what.
-
not is dipswitches are used to set the settings.
Only if there is a menu to setup the settings.
-
Flip each switch one by one till you get into the settings, you don't really need a map to find what switch it is exactly.

Here is a manual and it does/should have a test switch, sorry.

No, the dipswitches usually SET the settings, not get you into a settings menu. Example, my Double Draogn II cabinet does not have a settings menu, it's all done by dipswitch. Like setting easy or normal hurricane kick, game difficulty, etc... That's what I was asking.

To quote the manual
"switch of and switch on again with TEST SWITCH (on the PCB) pressed."
So you have a pushbutton switch on the PCB somewhere.

Xmen does NOT use dipswitches. I have a 4player Xmen cab downstairs that can prove that ;)
The arcade button in the coin door should be (is) the test switch. Your's may be wired up incorrectly I suppose.. but that is the test switch. Pressing that button after turning on the cab brings up the menu. I do not have to press any button on my PCB at all.. just the test switch itself.
One thing of note.. my 4p cab does not have a free play option. It has a number of coin/credit options, but nothing that is free play. It is not an option anywhere on the settings page. Perhaps there is something on the PCB for it.. but I have not looked as I'm really not that intersted. I did however find it a bit strange.
