Still haven't decided on a marquee. Was looking for ideas about this idea
-
I think it would have more impact if the earth was much larger in the shot. It could go out of the frame and still be quite recognizable.
-
I agree. A bigger Earth would make it look cool. It looks a bit puny right now.
-
That really isn't the earth just a photoshop rendering. Keep in mind I am leaving space at the top and bottom for the marquee brackets that cover it up.
-
I'd fill up the frame more with both the earth and the text. They both look a little lost. I like the font. Very retro. What's in the background? Are those stars or is it a kind of "matrix" thing?
-
Just a plain starfield in the background
-
Also 3dmacman. Ever think of having the sun kind of setting on the earth kind of like a Universal Pictures Intro? I think that would look great. Just an Idea ;D
-
How about having the lettering shooting out from the earth similar (i think) to the way they used to have the Superman lettering shooting out at the opening credits to the film?
-
I like it as is. Has a retro (80's?) look. THe earth is NOT too small. It's balanced just right with the size of the title. Otherwise the title and earth would end up as one big object in the middle.
-
Here is another approach.
-
Looks a lot better than the first one IMO.
-
I prefer the second one too, but here's a little criticism:
lens flares are ugly and played out, lose it. Besides, since the marquee will be backlit the white flare will light up like a flashlight against the dark background.
Your font is good, it captures the retro-gaming style. The bevel effects on the second example are not good. The text looks like plastic and doesn't fit the style of the art.
Your theme is Gameworld, what you have to do is ask yourself how to represent that idea visually. The earth is a solid element, but where is the "game" concept represented? The red lines don't really help to get the idea across. My first thought was to enlarge the globe and segment it with an overlaid grid, like a war-room simulator look. Or maybe you could place a sun behind the earth and have shadows casted in the shape of arcade / gaming icons. That might be hard to pull off though.
Keep working with it and let us know what you come up with!

I'm really liking that font, but the centered layout seems a bit dull to me. You might try to re-arrange things a bit. Here's a few rough ideas I had. The text is only arcing up in the second one because I copied and pasted it.
If you want to add game elements, I'd suggest spaceships (red and white Galaga ships maybe?) or possibly a pacman shaped planet/moon. :)
