Here is my 4p design so far. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
-
Thats pretty much the stock one, nothing wrong with it really.
-
good. I just want to make sure before I start cutting.

Thats pretty much the stock one
but with some sneaky 'hidden' buttons.
What's up the the two on the 'back' of the cp? Aren't those going to be up against the rest of the cab itself?
-
Those are for reset and game config. They actually sit about 2" from the outside of the cab.
-
I don't know how comfortable the pinball buttons are going to be if the curved piece outside them is the outline of the top of the CP.
-
I just noticed that about the pinball buttons. I just wasn't sure how comfortable they would be sitting at a 45 degree angle. I am sure I will find out when I do a cardboard mock-up.
-
Those "sneaky" pinball buttons are AWESOME!
Otherwise its all tried and true layout wise.
Be sure and take alot of photos once you start construction and post them in the project announcement forum.
-
Wouldn't you want players' 3 and 4 joysticks to be perpendicular to where the player is standing and not nessecarily the monitor? I would think this mounting would only be good for 4-player Q-Bert, if there was such a thing. See altered CP below.
-
No they need to be perpendicular to the screen. All 4p games are like that. It's more natural than you might realize.
-
Looks pretty slick!

Most 4 player control panels work like AlanS17 states

From what I understand it's mostly a preference thing. But it wouldn't hurt for you to go to an arcade and play a 4 player game from spots 3 and 4.

I don't think there are any original 4 player arcade games with control panels shaped with 45 degree angles.
-
The only sie-scrolling game I've ever played with angled controls was Bad Dudes in a Data East cabinet. Good game, but awful angle. I'm thinkit was ther mostly for the design aspect, because it actually detracted from game play rather than enhanced it.

I stand corrected. Learn something new every week, huh!?! Sounds like control panel builders here have done both ways, but almost all of the original 4-play arcade games all pointed up toward the screen.
Hey, doesn't matter to me, I'm just building a 2 person control panel. I only have one friend. :'( :'( ;)

Pointing 3 & 4 joysticks up also makes for better 2 player karate champ.
