I tried to calibrate my Act Labs TV light gun so my kids could play Jurassic Park and Egg Venture, but the gun never calibrates properly. The gun is pretty much 4 inches off in these games making my kids very angry .. :o
Anyway, I have not played Area 51 recently, however, I remember the gun calibrated fine for that game when I did play.
My monitor is only slightly leaned back, and is located about 2" behind the black bezel and lexan covering.
Can someone please try to play Jurassic Park and Egg Venture with their Act Labs TV light gun and see if they can shoot accurately ...... If so, then I will send my kids over to your house for hours .... ;D ..... <edit> ok my wife says I can't do that ..... ;) <edit>
Helping me get my gun working for these games would make two kids happy ..... thanks

For some reason, wasn't Jurassic Park a T2 style gun, so an act-labs wouldn't really work, but I think there was some sort of issue with this, can't rember the post but Im sure someone with a gun will come along and tell u either if u can, cant, and what, if u can, to do. sorry!
Edit: You could always send it to me for an indefinite period of testing :P

Jurassic Park has always been off sine Ihave had my guns. Plus it's an analog mouse typr game and not a true light gun game. As for Egg Venture, it plays great. Are you sure you are calibrating the gun before you play??

Yes, I am flipping the switch so the screen turns white, then moving my light gun up/down and left/right to the boundaries. While calibrating, the gun is as close as possible to the lexan/bezel covering (which is approximately 2" away from the actually TV glass).
I can try Egg Ventures again and let you know.
When you shoot your gun while the crosshairs are "visible", then does the actual crosshairs (which are shown on the screen after you shoot) line up with the "site" at the end of the gun?

They line up perfectly when I play Egg Venture. They are wayyy off when I play Jurassic Park.
You may need to configure the gun in Egg Venture itself in test mode. I'm not sure if there is a section to calibrate the guns in Egg Venture, but other games have it.
