Title: PC games on MAME Cab
Post by: Silverwind on December 10, 2002, 02:10:44 pm
How many of you out there play PC games on your cabinet?

How well do a lot of them play using the arcade controls?  Do they run/look good on your arcade monitor/pc monitor etc?

:)

Well, I have the PC versions of many games, like daytona, golden tee, and nfl blitz.

How ever, there are some I have that's aren;t arcade games.  I have monopoly, which works well.

Once my control panels are finished it will be better, I plan on having a panel that is just used for pinball and to set a keyboard and mouse on.

Also games that allow simutanious play are good.  Like EA Sports games.  That's why I have two usb ports on the shelf of my cabinet.  I can hook up gamepads for games like that.

I have my first swappable panel done and one of the swappable panels I'm planning will be mostly empty. To set a keyboard or flightstick or to screw down my PC steering wheel.

well one game i just happened to play test to see what it would look like was Microsoft Rallisport Challenge on the tv(svid out from ati radeon 8500) and quite simply it was stunning! Dragons lair 3d looks excellent as well, nothing like playing a cartoon hehe.

anyone play games online on their cab?

I would like to use my cabinet to play PC games offline and online.. (or LAN)

Using a PC monitor it would probably be easy, but how is it using an arcade monitor or wells gardner?

I play Microsoft Pinball, Golden Tee (PC version), NHL 2002, and Madden 2002 on mine.  They work great.  Basically, any PC game with programmable controls (which many of them are now) will play great on it, assuming that you have a button, joystick, trackball, etc. for each action the game will perform.

Of course, my cab has a 19 inch PC monitor in it, so I don't have any issues there.

Good games are.

Beach Head 2000 2002 - Trackball as the mouse - yet the buttons can't be re-mapped?

Visual Pinball/Pinmame - Side buttons work great.

Links 2003 - Trackball swing
PGA Championship golf - Trackball Swing

Asteroids 3D. - Using buttons only
Space Invaders 3D. - " "

Although I haven't done it on my cabinet (no ethernet in the garage...yet), you could play any 2-4 player Mame game with Kaillera online.  A month or two ago, I started up a 4 player Simpsons game with people in the BYOAC chat room one night...was quite fun.

I'll also be have my xbox in a cabinet to play some online games like Capcom v.s. SNK 2 EO (and the rumored Soul Calibur 2) ala xboxlive.

That's damn brilliant!  I already have a hub INSIDE the CP for my trackball and I-PAC...why not add external ports to the front.

WOW.

Sounds like a good idea! :)  I'm going to get me a little four port hub and put it up front!  This way I can just plug in a gamepad and play console games as well.. etc etc

Do the VGA arcade montiors work well with windows? (even if in 640x480)

I would love to get one of the 25/27" models if they work with standard VGA signals.. so I could run windows... pc games.. mame32.. etc..

Preferably one that doesn't require a special graphics card or special drivers?  Plug and Play? :)

yes..sounds about right?

Its well worth the money because the scan rate is from 15 khz to 31 khz..so you could even hook up some jamma board too if you wish..i wish i could fit a d9200 but NO !...wont fit my door way if my cab is too wide so i stick to neotec 25".

doh! won't fit eh?  I hope it will fit through my door but i'm not sure.. i'll have to check... worse comes to worse i'll just build it in the room I want it in ;) ;) ;) hehehe

So what are the specs of the neotec 25"?
and i have read somewhere the d9200 can do 800x600? or is it just 640x480 (refresh?)

i heard too....some had done 800x600 however if i were to guess..i would say its the u3000 model that dont exist that used to do 800x600 and people mixing these 2 monitors up.

i got problem that what if i move or anything...just to be sure.. i am keeping it around 25".

specs of neotec is simple.have scanlines,640x480 and thats all i care about.i already know the quility. ;D

Goto my website to check it out.  There is this crayola foam that gets hardish once it dries.  I am going to make caps for my ports so I can't spill anything in them.

I also use those ports to hook up a usb keyboard and mouse when using windows or playing computer games.  Also I hook up DDR pads to that too.  USB ports are very versitile.  I'm tempted to get the lightgun now and extend the vga port to my control panel.  Not sure though, I here alot of mixed feelings about that gun.

Also, if you look at the pic of my cabinet I have the 4 port inside, I routed those two ports on the shelf to two of the ports in the hub.  The other two my spinner and trackball reside.  The computer I am using right now has 4 usb ports already in it so if I need more for some reason I can route cables through my coin door.  But I forsee me not using that anytime soon.

The shelf will get an overlay sometime.  I have a graphic design friend who said he'd do it for me once he has the time.  I can be patient, I'll wait.  It'll be cool, labels for each buttons, instruction card on all the IPAC shift buttons and a quick cheat to how to use my FE.

If you see something on my cabinet you lke and want to know more about feel free to PM me.

I will definatly toss on a few USB ports on the front.. and maybe even a few ethernet ports on the side (hidden via panel) in case someone want's to do some LAN games..

Now my next question about PC games on mame cab..  is there any way to use the arcade controls (happ super joystick) to play PC games?  Some games like half-life you can remap the keys... shouldn't be a problem..

but for some games.. that require mouse or joystick... is there anyway to use those with arcade joysticks? (no optical devices)

I only saw a utility that makes a joystick act like a keyboard.  I believe he was looking for Keyboard->mouse.

I think you might be disapointed with that idea.  Ever play a fps on a console system, you will go back to a PC because using a mouse and keyboard is much easier than other controls for those games.

I agree.  If at all possible just add a pull-out shelf for the keyboard & mouse.

I played a beachhead 2000 at a Putt-Putt arcade.  I wonder, has anyone used a yoke w/ beachhead 2000 or 2002 for the PC?  It seems that would work well.  Don't have a yoke myself, so I don't know.

Infogrames, publisher or whatever they are, of the beachhead games also make a game called Pearl Harbor: Defend the Fleet.  I gave the game a second chance and its not to bad.  ten bucks at wal mart or if you do your shopping at Kazza-mart you might find it there for less
