Title: Unpack .rar archives
Post by: Stingray on June 10, 2005, 03:05:31 pm
Is there any freeware available to use when unpacking .rar archives? The ones that I've found are limited shareware. This is with XP.

Um.  Winrar is free.

You just get a nag screen.
You want
English WinRAR and RAR release
which is about half way down the page.

Oh, I assumed that since it is limited to 40 days that it would just stop working. In any case, ExtractNow is installed and it's doing what I wanted it to do with no nag screens. Thanks anyway.

Somebody with more morals than me told me that when software is nagging you, it really isn't FREEWARE, and you shouldn't use it.

Meh, I don't mind the nagging.

Either will extract the file. That's all I needed it to do. I fail to see how one would be better than the other in this case.

Sorry, but that app, is garbage..

I repeat: It opened the file I need to open. I'll probably never need it again. It got the job done.

Thank goodness you're silly, Stingray.  That's prolly why I like ya!

Try PowerArchiver.  It'll let ya do a .ZIP, 7-Zip, CAB, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, RAR, ACE and many more formats....several different types, so it could become useful quickly for you, or be a welcome change to what you're already using.

I dunno if it's freeware anymore, but it used to be.  If you want my old free version, lemme know and I'll send it out if you want to try it.....even though you already opened the file you needed to open.  I just don't want you to be stuck looking silly in the future ;D

I have no problem being silly. If I ever get another .rar & can't open it, I'll be sure to come crawling back for forgiveness. ;)
