Title: Coin buttons for P2/P3/P4?
Post by: Dougmeister on June 10, 2005, 11:18:34 am
Looking to upgrade (sort of) to a 4-player CP and wondering:

1) I need 4 player "start" buttons (obviously)
2) But do I also need "insert coin" buttons for all 4 players?

Thanks.

Yes, you do. Most 4-player games designate which person is receiving the money by which slot it's put in. It's not like 2 player games where the slots are interchangeable.

For example, look at TMNT. It doesn't even have start buttons. You put in your money, press one of your game buttons, and go.

I suppose you could kinda cheat and wire the coin button to all four inputs (or player one coin button to coin one and two and player two coin button to coin three and four - if you already have player one and two coin buttons.)

Obviously you are giving multiple players credits rather than one but its kind of a solution.

Personally I would go for a coin button for each player though.

Definitely use separate inputs.

Wiring them together won't work. The 4 need to be independent. What if you wanted to play NBA Jam? The only way to fire up a 1-on-1 game would be to have 2 useless players on the screen.

Or how about TMNT? If you wanted to play, you'd have to drag all your useless buddies around with you.

You've got to have 4 seperate coin inputs.
