cool artwork..seriouslly..like it :).
-
Kewl, thanks. I took the artwork from the Cabinet side art to one of the Marvel or Xmen games and combined it with comic book scans of X-men vs SF.
-
Kudos! It looks fantastic (and quite professional). I'd think about mounting a gutted Dreamcast inside so you can just walk over to a friends house and challenge them to MvC2 on the spot. That'd sure shut up those smack talkers. ;D
-
Wow, very impressive indeed! I really like the artwork and the layout is pretty damn smooth. Quick question: can you take some pictures of how you got the analog joysticks hooked up to the analog psx joysticks? I'd definitely be interested in seeing this, cause I wouldn't mind trying this hack out myself if it works.
Also, what did you use to power the Perfect 360s? Did you just wire it to the 5+v coming out out of the playstation plug?
-good job

Yes, I ran the +5v straight from the PS cable. I think it was Pin5 if I'm not mistaken.
I don't really want to pull apart the control pad after getting all of it mounted to the joystick. <-- it wouldn't be of much help anyhow since the wires are LONG and it would be hard to show how it all connects.
Instead, I'll draw up something and do my best to explain ;)

Go to the link above... unfortunately that free webhosting site won't allow me to link pictures from other sites.
The picture is basically the back of one of the ANALOG controls. i.e. the left Analog thumb stick.
If you wanted to wire this to... let's say a Happ Super this is what you'd do:
You'll need 4 Wires to connect to the following "dots"
1 - Red
1 - Blue
1 - x axis
1 - y axis
None of these points appeard to be GND and I still have no idea what a POT or a HALL is.
If NONE of the wires touch this represents a "50% signal" <-- the stick is basically centered if Y is at 50% and X is at 50%
If RED and Y-Axis touch it represents "0 signal on Y" = Down
If Blue and Y-Axis touch it represents "100% signal on Y" = UP
.
.
.
The RED and BLUE are common on the other analog stick as well so you'll only need an additional 2 wires to hook the other analog control. The RED and BLUE points are commonly labled on the PCB as 1 and 3 respectively.
Hope that helps.

FYI, Perfect 360's are not analog joysticks. They are switchless 8-ways (I believe using LEDs). As m3talslug pointed out, you could also hookup normal 8-ways the same way (minus the +5v power).

Yep, I knew bout the perfect 360s not being analog controls, I've used em on Capcom vs SNK 2 machines and they're hella smooth, although they did get dirty and not cleaned, which was no good.
Hmm.. thanx for the info m3talslug, I think I might go pick up a gamestop dual shock psx controller, and see if I can get the same results, maybe I can make a new joystick and put a switch on it to go from digital to analog, that shouldn't be too hard I wouldn't think. I've gotten my digital controllers to work from Gamestop on my dreamcast convertors, I wonder if their dual shock versions will work as well.
-Anyways, thanx

Very nice M3talslug!
Could you tell us where you purchased the "invisible" hinges? All of my control panels thus far have some unsightly hinges in the front or back, I'd like to get rid of them...
-
I bought them from Home Depot. They are "lock hinges" which snap open and snap close. THey are also types that you can mount if you have a "circular drill bit" or ones that you simply screw down with 4 screws on each side.
I went for the "easy to mount" 4 screws on each side.

is it possible to make a 360 joystick for the DC? i've been dying to do it. i already have one built so i can simple replace the joystick. any help will be greatly appreciated. thanx.
-
look at the dc pad for 5+ power then hook it up..you can just buy the upgrade from happ and use it in your current joystick(assuming you already have either supers or comps)
-
can you post the link to the upgrade? is the upgrade compatible with ultimates as well? ??? thnx
-
Try Here
http://www.wicothesource.com/391.html
and
http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/50608300x.htm
you can call them up and ask them specifically for their "base assembly" if you have a joystick you want to convert

nice work... did you do any routing to mount the perfect 360's?
Also how much did that vinyl print at kinko's cost you, and what's the size?
-
I didn't have to do any routing, the P360s come with spacers to mount onto both wood and metal. :)
The vinyl cost me about $25CDN which is approx $17USD for a dimension of 2x1 feet (roughly). They have a nice cutting machine there and they trimmed it to fit exactly for free.

interesting.. I have supers.. just got em... don't think they have spacers :(
no problem.. found out one of my friends has a router.. hehe.. i'll just borrow it :)
he said it was 100 megabit, will that work? (J/K) ;D
-
I think the supers do have a "short sleeve" and a "tall sleeve". <-- for mounting to wood or metal respectively.
I didn't mount onto 5/8" or 3/4" wood. I went with 3mm Lucite + Hardboard (1cm approx, denser and harder than MDF).

Right.. it did come with two different sleeves... I have the tall sleeve on it now..
I guess what I need to know... is how to mount this thing.. but since I don't want to steal your thread i'll post this question in the main forum... check it out there if you have time.. thanks :)
