Title: Gamecube controler Hack
Post by: Marky_1979 on June 09, 2005, 08:20:10 am
How would I or is it even possible to hack a gamecube control pad?

I have just seen an amazing project for an x-box arcade and this has given me the idea for converting my panasonic q gamecube into a home arcade.

I can see this being ideal for games like NHL BLITZ and others but for games that use analogue this might be tricky.

Any comments or suggestions would be good.

Has anyone done this at all?

Many Thanks

It will probably work.

Analog is usually difficult to hack, all the other digital controls should be fairly easy.

Thanks alot qbert247 & HarumaN

So would you suggest that i avoid the whole issue of analogue?

Im pleased to hear that it can be done would love to make a console cab with proper arcade controls.

Is there a guide to help me do this wouldnt know where to start.

I assume i buy 4 controlers and take them apart and plug them in as normal is this right?

Cheers guys hope to hear from you soon - Marky

I intend to make a console cab someday (maybe when all the next gen systems come out that way I can have a place to put my old systems...).

What I intend to do is to actually hack ps pads and then use a ps to xbox/GC adapter for the other systems.  PS pads are cheap and very easily hackable.

But if you are just going to be running Gamecube I would just get the cheapest off brand controllers you can find.  If you do a search on hacking PS pads I know there are several walkthroughs and the procedure would be the relatively the same for the GC pad.

Actually that is a very good idea, hacking a PSX pad and adapting it to NGC. That would eliminate the analog control problem.

I don't understand why you want a gamecube cab though. Gamecube is my favorite current generation system, but I don't think its games would fit in a cab well. Then, getting rid of the analog control is going to limit your game selection even more.

I think most people use the xbox because they hack them with a mod chip, so they can play MAME.

Just love NHL Hitz and a few other games i have would be ace to play with Arcade controls.

I agree games like MARIO, Zelda and others would be useless but for games like that pure arcade style would be ace.

Marky,

My wife and I have the GC also and are eventually planning to try the same thing (if we ever finish this thing called an arcade cabinet!)!  Thanks for starting a very useful thread, and thanks to the guys who have provided some very useful info!

Hey RTSDaddy2 , thanks for the comments i know exactly what you mean im currently in the final stages of my UAII but already planning the next project its very addictive :D.

My next aim is to get alist of games together that use solely digital controls.

Thanks again - Marky
