Title: large audio file problems
Post by: daywane on June 07, 2005, 10:18:39 pm
I have a large colection of books on tape. ( about a 100 tapes)
I can convert them to mp3 with no problem. Take me the rest of my life but the problem is there is no pause or gap in the reading of the book.

how can I break the large file up into like 5 min tracks?

prefer a free program  ;)

WAV Editor.

Open the file up, find an area that seems like a good place to split (look for a straight line indicating no noise whatsoever, and insert a split)

This really SHOULDN'T take you that long.  I've split up 5-disc sets like this, and once you've got down what/where you'd prefer to insert splits, you can chop up a song in less than 10 minutes.

I just got "Hearts In Atlantis" and am hoping it's not like that though.  It's a 21-disc unabridged book :o

most of my CD books are fine.
you should be fine with that one. Nice to see some one else listens to audio books. Ever one around here thinks I am nuts for it.
Used to long drives and a book would help kill the time. I try to get the unabridged versions always.
thinks for the tip I will check it out the program you mentioned.

look for this program

audacity-win-1.2.3.exe

its a free pgrm, and you can load the whole audio file in, and then select parts, and save selection (basically cut it into smaller pieces...)

I haven't a clue what you're talking about, if you're referencing the book.  Just got it.  If it's a "political" thing, you'd be surprised at what people take in even though it goes against their views.  Every week I pick up this commie rag called The Shepherd Express because I like reading opposing views.  And I mean "commie rag" in ONLY the nicest way possible ;) ;D

Check it out yerself - http://www.shepherd-express.com/ (http://www.shepherd-express.com/)  It's like a cut-rate "The Onion"
