Title: How was sinister artwork made?

I have a converted sinister cab which i am going to uncover teh original artwork. I thought it was painted on originally, but I can feel where the art work is raised up above the paint. Was this originally silk screened or vinyl stickers? What is the best way to uncover this? 3m safety stripper? Let me know what you think. Rob
