Now that I'm getting closer and closer to my cab http://www.westg8.com/emugasm/ (http://www.westg8.com/emugasm/) I am wondering about bells and whistles. First things first. Does anyone know of a power strip that will cut all power when the computer goes off? Ideally, I would like to have the whole machine turn off (including TV and speakers and whatever else I cram in) when I do a shut down thru Windows. This will be a multi-emulator cab (MAME, Atari, Nintendo, Intellivision, etc) and I will be running Windows 98. Since the computer will power off by shutting down Windows, it would be nice if everything else went with it. So, any ideas?
TIA!!!

Well, the easiest way would be to take apart your power strip, "extend" the switch to inside the door or on top or something.
BUT doing it that way won't shut down the pc properly.. So if you don't mind scandisk everytime it starts(that can be disabled) or the risk of mangling data that'd be the way to go
2 switches seems to be the way to do it

search this board....
someone had mentioned a power strip before...
it has a USB plug.... when the USB lost power... (ie... your computer shut off... it'll shut off the rest of the switches...)
I forgot about the brand name... etc... but I'm sure I read it before somewhere here.... maybe someone else can help...
there is also another one.... where the power strip switch is actually a wired remote.... so... you can extend that switch out.......
these should be pretty good solutions for your case....
anyone recall which thread it is ???
hope it helps....

They sell power strips with remote switches. Thats what I use but the pc isn't switched. That way I have one button that turns on or off speakers, marquee light, and monitor but I can have the pc on seperately like for sending it updates or copying files to and from it.
Here is a link to the ultimate mame power strip if you want everything to go on and off with the pc.

It turns on and off with the pc-

Here you go, I just made it and it was a piece of cake. Works PERFECTLY and it's exactly what you're asking for.
Heres how it works:
Socket one has constant power and your computer plugs into it.
Socket two is relay controled and the relay is connected to a power supply connector in your computer. When the computer is turned on it closes the relay and supplies power to socket two. (your power bar for all your extras plugs are plugged in here.) When you power down the computer it opens the relay and shuts off all power to socket two, turning everything off.

Yep I used that too. Took me about 1 hour to buy the parts at HomeDepot and RadioShack and 1 hour to make. Works perfect.

Has any one seen a cheap easy to build voltage sensing circuit? They make them for power tools. You plug your power tool into an outlet. When a sensor sees the voltage drop of the tool being turned on it kicks a relay that turns on another outlet like for a vacumn to collect dust. This would be a simpler way to have a switched circuit since you wouldn't need 12v from the PC.
Just tossing out an idea here... ::)

I found what I was looking for, its at Sears for $19.99 . The unit # is model:24031.73335.23479. Its for power tools, like a router when you turn the router on it turns on the outlet for a vacumn. When you shut the router off it shuts off the outlet after a slight delay. I don't know if it will work with a PC but its only $20 and if it doesn't work you could always bring it back.
