Post by: neo-geNo on June 04, 2005, 07:51:44 pm
Hello, I wanted to build an arcade cabinet and wanted to know if this would be a good setup to do:  http://www.arcadecab.com/Intro.htm

Thanks.

You can Buy Saint's Book
Project Arcade: Build Your Own Arcade Machine

http://www.projectarcade.com/

The book includes in the CD rom the MAME room plans from alone worth the price of the book.

BTW: as soon as I saw the price sheet included the x-arcade controllers I stopped reading.

Will the book (Project Arcade) tell me how to make a cabinet step by step?  I really just need to know how to make a cab, then I'll insert a monitor/pc in and I'm all set.

Yes.

Saint's book is by far the first thing you should ever purchase.  I built my first cab before I purchased the book but it would have been so much easier if I had bought the book first.

Awesome, thanks guys.  I'll have to check my local book store to see if they have it in stock.

I'll second (or third) the recommendations for saint's book -- I just got started in this hobby (after hanging out on the sidelines for a long time), and the book is an awesome reference for building your own arcade system. It's well-written, interesting, and as comprehensive as a printed book can be. Combined with this web site, you'll be up and running in no time, and your cabinet will look great!

FWIW, I bought the book in electronic form from Amazon -- took a bit to download it, but I have it handy on my laptop whenever I need to refer to it. (And unfortunately, you have to pay full price for the electronic version -- the print version is actually significantly cheaper from Amazon. Go figure.)

A couple of guys had complained in the past that the Electronic version of the book, did not include the stuff that is included in the CD. (Plans, templates, color fotographs etc...)
Not sure if this is still the case.

The book is a must-have. When I read it, that was when I realized just how much I needed it. It comes with a CD rom with two popular sets of plans on it, and if you use the Ultimate Arcade II plans included, then the book has already payed for itself! It shows lots of important stuff, and it'll help you out alot.

Yep, still the case. I was a bit disappointed in that, in fact.
