Title: Joystick Guide Washer Help!!! Please
Post by: Brewser on June 04, 2005, 12:09:26 am
I purchased 2 of this joystick:
http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/50700800.htm
Well I tried to mount it in a 1 1/8" hole and it didn't work, so I ordered the mounting plates that I thought would be like the trackball mounting plates.
They are not like the trackball mounting plates. They are about a 1/4" thick with several mounting holes. so I went ahead and drilled and cut enough space to top mount these, not knowing that they should be mounted under the CP. Now it looks like crap. The only way I know how to clean up my holes would be to find a 4" plastic disk with a 1" hole in the middle to insert the joystick and cover the mess I have made on my CP.
Any thoughts were I can find 4" black disks with 1" holes in the middle? This whole thing has turned into a nightmare. I had everything just the way I wanted it and then destroyed it with trying to mount these joysticks. I do not recommend these joysticks to anyone as far as mounting goes.
Does anyone think Home Depot would have 4" black plastic washers to cover up my mistakes? What would you guys do?
Thanks for any help.

Your local plastic shop may have 1/16" black lexan, and should be able to cut it for you.

I know this doesn't help YOU in the situation you are in presently, but I've got to point out that you don't recommend them to anyone, but that link you gave has mounting instructions for it, and seem pretty easy to figure out how to mount.

Is there something that the mounting instructions on that link DON'T tell us that your personal experience would refute?  They seem pretty easy to mount - to me, anyway - and your experience seems as if there was something missing or you couldn't follow the instructions.

Not a slam, but it'd be nice to know - in case your experience is just out of the ordinary.  That's all.

The problem is they don't mount like a normal joystick with a 1 1/8" hole. You actually need a 2.5" hole and there is no guide washer for it so it would have to be a clean cut. I thought I could order the mounting plates and use them like the trackball plates, but again this is not the case. I got in the mounting plates and proceed to cut the 1 1/8" hole larger with a jigsaw since I thought I could cover up my cut lines and such. I also drilled the holes for the mounting plate to go in around the larger joystick hole. I went too fast and didn't think this through properly. These mounting plates are for very thin tops such as metal as it describes. They are not meant to be mounted on the top, but rather under the CP top. It looks like a hack job now.

Take a day off.  Relax

Then, make a brand new CP that will be 10 times better than your first.

I would love to start a new CP but this was the Slikstik CO2 blank and I don't want to spend another $210 just to fix this. I am still trying to figure out how to hide my mistakes.
BTW. I setup the Mameroom cab today and the cab looks great. I just need to add the marquee and the monitor plexiglass and it will be complete. This is so cool, my first cab and am very happy except for the bolts and washers sticking out for the firebutton joysticks.
