Title: music question

I was wanting to transfer a tape of my daughter's piano recital onto a cd.

can I use the line in on my sound card to put it on my PC?

what software can I use?

yea, shove it in the LINE IN play you tape and if you hear the sounds in you r PC speakers, you can use the WINDOWS RECORDER and record it. IF you have a better program like that comes with the soundblaster cards, then use that. I've done it several times.
There are other programs out there that states that it can record bettter and take the HISS out of TAPE/REcords while recording. Forgot the name of it....

If you have Nero Burning ROM, it comes with a pretty decent wave editor.

Just make sure you do not over-drive the levels (in other words: make sure the volume on your tape player is not too high). Otherwise you will get distortion (also known as "clipping").

Audacity is a pretty good wav editor, recorder, will save in MP3 and it's free.

There's a decent software called Groove Mechanic.  I've been using it to transfer 45s to mp3.

Thanks guys I didn't get a chance to try to work on it over the weekend..........

Hopefully this weekend I'll get it done....

I tried this program and like it  but I am converting my books on tape over to mp3's
I am having problems to make tracks.
