Title: Cleaning PCB's Suggestions?
Post by: Baker535 on June 02, 2005, 05:30:37 pm
Just got a Japanese Metal Slug 1 MVS cart. It was having a few issues when I first booted it. Then I just used some canned air and it helped a lot, but the high score table still is garbled. Game wise everything else seems fine.

I opened up the housing and looked at the boards inside, they are pretty dirty. Any chance cleaning them will help? If so, what should I use? I know for PC parts I just used a dab of rubbing alcohol. Similar situation? Any help would be appreciate as always. Thanks!

One popular method is the dishwasher (no joke).  But I am too scared to try it.   Another suggestion is electronic cleaner from radio shack.   But I would like to piggy back your question and ask:

What is the primary chemical in electrical cleaner?  Can I but something generic and redily available for cheap?

The first thing I'd try is using a little emery paper on the edge connectors to make sure theyre 100% clean and making good contact.
