I was in Big Lots (closeout store) yesterday and they were selling these USB keypads called Mobile Magic for $8. Basically they are the numberpad you see on the end of just about every computer keyboard hooked up to a USB.
They are supposedly ideal for laptops where bookkeeper types need to punch in numbers quickly.
But my thought is they would be perfect for jukeboxes.
As I am no jukebox expert, am I right? i.e. Can most jukebox devices be programmed with a number coinciding with the song? (like real jukeboxes do).
I wish I had a pic, but I'm sure you get my gist. And the price seemed really amazing. _________

Any thoughts? Pad comes in black and looks sharp.

DOSCab/WinCab jukebox will do this.

That's exactly what I'm going to use for my new juke.!!! I'll post a pic and my controls.ini when I get home tonight.

Me too /aol I'm putting a USB keypad in the admin panel of my cab specifically to control SKJukebox. Additionally it will give me a nice bunch of admin keys for MAME which will allow me to go with nothing else on my admin panel but the keypad and a big "quit" button. I wouldn't necessarily need even that but it will improve the ease of use for people not familiar with the cab. Another plus is that some of them have a built in 2 port USB hub which will allow me to neaten the wiring a little for my spinner.
I've yet to pick one up and get it out of the case to see how easy it is to mount one through a panel. If anyone has one handy they can de-case, pics and info would be appreciated.
Another thing I'd like to do is relabel the keys with their jukebox functions. I'm still looking for a good way to do that. If I can't find a good way that will be durable enough I'll probably put on of those Happs triangular buttons on either side of the keypad. Like so:

I just rechecked. The brand for the USB keypad is Mobile Motion, not Mobile Magic. Sakar and Indiana makes them

Here's the link to the pic.
This seems like the easiest Mame/Juke option ever! Basically if I wanted to, I could create a box to hold the monitor and computer and the USB does the rest.... no real encoding stuff to deal with if I wanted to be lazy

Does that one have the USB hub built in?
-
No it does not.

Here's my pad and my controls.ini.

It has a USB interface built in...

I'd like to find a better option for marking the keys though.
