Title: Play Station One Questions
Post by: gonzobrian on June 01, 2005, 08:28:04 pm
Well while I am in the midst of finishing my first cocktail cabinet I was in the mall the other day looking at the game shop and picked up a PSX for $20 for my 6 year old.  He has been playing Tony Hawk on my Xbox for some time now and I thought what a better way to get him off my Xbox for a bit so I can play Halo 2.
So my question.  I want to let him put the disk in by him self.  That's always been a no no on the xbox but the games are cheap.  But I would really like to make back ups of the originals and let him play the back up just in case he scratches them.  I know how to do all that on an xbox but it seems details are hard to find on the psone probably due to the systems age.  So does any one know what it would take to back up play station games?
Much thanks,
Gonzobrian

Yeah either a Mod Chip or a Boot Disk.  I like to use PSX-X Change v2 with my PSOne since you don't have to void your warranty although I don't think that is much of an issue any more these days.

My bro used a parallel port plug chip instead of soldering in stealth chip like I did. He's happy with it -- particulalry given that he didn't have to open up his PS1. Might be easier and cheaper for you. I don't know if there's a significant functional difference.

Of course, later generation models don't have a parallel port.

Thanks every one for the info.  I went with the 6 wire chip.  After the 29 wire job I did on my xbox that should be a breeze.   ;)

or you could just buy some of those disk condom things that cover your disks and keep them free from scratches

In case you haven't gotten this info yet, psx games are a straight CD copy, use nero or clonecd on default settings, piece of cake!

The games themselves are easily copied, but you cannot play them on a real PS1 without either a mod chip, a Gameshark or a boot disc.
