Post by: btoddkelley on June 01, 2005, 10:12:28 am: Normally you have either points OR an electronic ignition. (The do the same job, break the circuit on the coil so that the spark goes to the plug.) Do you have points with an electronic spark advance?
Most older cars that had points also had mechanical spark advance rather than electronic.

Post by: Stingray on June 01, 2005, 11:04:27 am: Sounds like he's recently replaced his points ignition with an electronic ignition. I had a similar problem with a car burning points about once per month. Turned out the distrubutor shaft was slightly bent, causing it to spin out of true.

My shaft may have a slight bend but it still functions normally so there is no point dwelling on this.
