Title: Pimp My Cab!
Post by: AlanS17 on May 31, 2005, 10:19:21 am
I need some artwork inspiration and a name. I'm always been decent on the hardware end, but lacking in the artistic arena. PLEASE HELP!

I've got a TMNT that I'm converting for MAME. It's a wide Konami cabinet. You can see it here:

The camera angles on that page aren't very good. Maybe I can get a shot of the side of the machine. However, I think most of you know what it looks like. It's the same cabinet as The Simpsons:

Anyways, the sideart is intact on one side, but ripped up on the other. It's not worth saving to me.

So, got any suggestions???

I'm open to finishing suggestions, too. I suck at painting, but I can try it. I can also apply vinyl or laminate without much issue.

Contact Paper ;)

No, not really. Use gloss black oil based paint and a roller.

Before you paint, use a heat gun and peal the old decals off and sand the cab until it's real smooth.

I've already got the heat gun ready to go. Full side art would probably be very expensive for this thing so I was figuring on painting it black and applying something over it. I just don't know what that something is gonna be yet.

You can always go with basic geometric shapes. I used red stripes on the sides of mine. One of these days I am going to finish it too.

Why oil based?

What are some of your favorite games? That really helped me when deciding on my art direction.

Oil- Based paint gives a tough, long lasting finish that wont peal easily due to scratching/scraping, maintains its glossy finish, only takes one or two coats of paint after priming well, and smaller than cabinet sized decals adhere nicely.

My favorites range from Asteroids to the Pac family to Street fighter series, and even the vector classics.
