UPDATE!

i checked a local electronics store and found that they sell 110:100(Japanese) transformers... i dint think they would sell them if they were unnecessary! So i guess I'll invest in one of those... i am still wondering about the sync though... i haven't been able to make sense of the info in the FAQ (read it 9 times)

new question: Does any one have any idea how many Amps a 29" arcade monitor draws... those transformers get EXPENSIVE and i am a little short on funds, so i would like to buy the smallest that will work!

as always,
 Thanks in advance!

DUH...

sorry... brain fart. i just looked at the outside of the cab... and the entire cab only draws 378W... so i can do the math... ignore my power draw question... but i9 am still looking for info on the sync!

thanks in advace

Nanao monitors are rare in the USA. The few I have seen over the years are crap. It's impossible to get manuals/schematics/parts for them as Nanao no longer manufacturers arcade monitors.

Well despite that vote of confidence ;) i went ahead anyways... found that the local arcade distributor/repair shop had a manual... so with that new info i finally had enough info to procede... i am going to keep updating this thread in case anyone else is going through something like this!

after many hours looking through wrecks and scrounging parts, i think i have spent enough time that the repair shop was getting sick of me... i finally got some time to sit down and talk with the repair guys :) keep bugging them they will eventually cave in!

after asking my questions; the guy sat and listened to all my questions and then finally asked "why don't you just read the label"

HUH? Label?

he explained to me that these Japaneses cabs have a label on EVERY connector (i won't share his rather racist explantion of this) ;)

So back home i went, dismantled enough of my cab to crawl inside and lo and behold stickers everywhere!

so i now really have all the info i need... so (fingers crossed) i am going to do my first power on test of my monitor tomorrow... while i still have nothing invested but time!

and with luck stripdown and clean will be the next step... hopefully soon i can move this out of the monitor forum!  ;D

The info I really need is this, the sticker on the tube says 100v power supply only! Can I just run this thing off regular 110v house current?

the last thing would be the sync, I want to run them on an arcade VGA or other modified card... but for some reason the board on the Monitor doesn

Thanks for the input Dave_K... looks like you may be another valuable resource to exploi....errr ask for help!

i looked at your astro city 2 thread...  your cab looks in WAAAY better shape then mine... since mine doesn't even have a working power suppply (previous owner fried it)

OK, now for an update...

i wired in my new power supply for the monitors in today... looks like i have one bad monitor and one maybe salvageable...

the first picture is the one i think is toast... there are no adjustment knobs or anything to try and correct the picture..

the second (it is hard to see in the conditions i took the pic) looks uniform and no distortions...

so the next step is hack a VGA cable and reprogram my 3DFX card to display 15kHz and test it on MAME...

Open the control panels, the adjustment boards are usually mounted in there.

it is there on one (the bottom one) but not the other... i crawled in and had a look, but alas, the controler board is missing from the second monitor.

Could it be that one monitor PCB is driving both tubes? (thus one set of controls)?

Hmmm.... INTRESTING!

LOL, i haven't actually powered up both monitors at the same time!

i shall try this first thing tomorrow, i was just in the process of building a VGA2monitor cable, but I'll put that aside

but i have crawled inside the machine, and each monitor has it's own board strapped to the bottom, not sure of that means anything... maybe I'll wait for the cable to declare either monitor toast.

UPDATE:

Well plugged in all the monitors and wired up the VGA cable AND...

Nothing.

All i get is a squiggly white picture on one and a black screen on the other. Although the black screen re sizes to the dimensions that the picture is supposed to be.

i shall keep working on it.

Sadly i don't have a manual... the local repair shop wanted $45 for photocopied! freakin crooks... the book is 12 pages!

BUT, i didn't share my feelings with them, so they just let me walk in and read it anytime i want (and either they are open, or i have a good heavy brick)

the funny thing is, i spend so much time down at the shop, that i have destroyed at least $200 worth of productivity!

I'll give you the advice they gave me, and i believe ken mentioned up there... what you have is a nice picture tube, with some junk hanging off the yolk! but hey, good luck with that, and if you ever figure the secret to fixing these things, let me know i have 2 of them :)

Jomac in Australia is the Nanao expert and he may have the schematics. Check out his website at:

TBA ,  The "H" pin is the composite sync . , dont connect anything to the V pin  .

You have a couple of problem caps on your chassis , if you haven't got it going yet let me know and I'll tell you which ones to change .

Raytech , what problems are you having ? I dont have a schematic for this model but I do know them inside out if you need some help .

Jomac
